Tokunbo Afikuyomi falsified Tinubu’s academic credentials to INEC, says Campaign Headquarters

 • JUNE 25, 2022

The Bola Tinubu Campaign Headquarters on Saturday said the recent certificate forgery charges against the former Lagos governor stemmed from a 1999 incident involving Lagos politician Tokun Afikuyomi.

The campaign said Mr Afikuyomi was the one who falsely told the electoral department INEC in 1999 that Mr Tinubu attended primary and secondary schools in Ibadan, a claim that has now resurfaced ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.

The response came a day after Peoples Gazette reported that Mr Tinubu’s 2023 presidential nomination filings with INEC showed he did not obtain primary and secondary education, with his campaign admitting that Mr Tinubu did not disclose his early schools because the matter was controversial in the early 2000s.

The campaign, however, said the ruling APC candidate was exonerated of all charges after Mr Afikuyomi, a former senator, admitted that he mistakenly filled the governorship nomination forms for Mr Tinubu in 1999 and, therefore, responsible for the false claims before a Lagos parliamentary panel that probed the counterfeit academic records.

“Asiwaju was exonerated in the House of Assembly’s report because Senator Afikuyomi said he filled the form on his behalf then,” campaign spokesman Bayo Onanuga said in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.

Mr Onanuga did not clarify whether or not Mr Tinubu could be held responsible under the law since he was the candidate whose signature appeared on the falsified document filed under oath.

Mr Onanuga said Mr Tinubu left out his primary and secondary education columns when he sought a second governorship term in Lagos in 2003.

Mr Onanuga said Nigerians should disregard perjury charges against Mr Tinubu because has not held any political office since he concluded his two terms in 2007, until earlier this month when he clinched the presidential nomination of the ruling party.

“The same certificate he gave to INEC this year, he used in 2003 and there was no issue then. Why are they raising issues now?” Mr Onanuga added to NAN. “This was what happened that time and if in 2022, he (Tinubu) now drew blank on that session, what offence has he committed?”

The campaign dismissed the controversy as fueled by opposition elements of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr Tinubu had told INEC when he submitted his nomination forms on June 15 that he didn’t have primary and secondary school certificates, but he had two university degrees. However, the certificates from the tertiary institutions he attended had been stolen by state agents who breached his residence in Lagos during the brutal regime of Sani Abacha.

AKPABIO CANDIDACY IS STRANGE, INEC MAKES OFFICIAL STATEMENT|Ojaomonews

June 15, 2022

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that its report on the Akwa Ibom northwest senatorial ticket is final.

He also said that the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has nothing to do about it.

Akpabio, who was a former governor in Akwa Ibom state had emerged the winner of the primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Ikot Ekpene.

The ex-governor polled 478 votes out of 512 accredited delegates for the election.

However, INEC has said that the primary that led to the emergence of Akpabio is strange to the commission and unknown to any law.

Igini during an interview on Comfort FM confirmed that the May 27, primary, which produced a former deputy inspector-general of Police, Udum Ekpoudum (retired.) subsists.

According to Igini, the said primary was neither cancelled nor rendered inconclusive.

A bunch of Nollywood fantasy

Further describing Akpabio's emergence as nothing but a “Nollywood fantasy", Igini added that what he knew about Akpabio was that he was the presidential aspirant for the APC who stepped down for Bola Tinubu at the presidential primary of the party.

His words:

“By virtue of Section 31 of the 2022 Electoral Act, the only way somebody can be replaced in any form is that we no longer have substitution by political party. What you have now is withdrawal by individual or nominee and or death."
“The law is not saying you should go and kill people so that you can have yourself on the ballot. No. The law is saying that those who have emerged at all levels up to the presidential level, you can decide that you are no longer interested."
"You can write an application signed by yourself, delivered to your party who will now deliver to INEC, but nobody can shave the political head of another person in his or her absence."

Governorship election: Go out enmass to elect me, Segun Oni tells Ekiti electorate

....As 6 political parties declare support for him

As Ekiti people go to the poll on Saturday to elect a new governor, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate and former governor of the state, Asiwaju Segun Oni, has appealed to the people of the state to come out enmass on Saturday to elect him as their governor.

According to a press statement issued by the spokesman of Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), a pro-Segun Oni group, Idowu Adelusi, and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the SDP governorship candidate made the appeal when six political parties, led by their leaders, came to declare support for his candidature at the Segun Oni Campaign Office, Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.

The parties and their leaders are: Action Alliance (AA), Mr Lanre Anifowoshe;  African Action Congress (AAC), Mr Adekolu; Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Prince Adeuyi;  All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Rufus Afolabi;  Youth Democratic Party of Nigeria (YDPN), also known as End SARS, Mr Segun Balogun and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mr Adebayo Ademola Emmanuel.

Their governorship candidates also stepped down for the SDP candidate.

Oni seized the occasion to allay the fear of the electorate, saying the Federal Government had assured of adequate security for the voters by deploying security personnel to the state to guarantee free environment for people to go out and cast their votes without fear of harassment and intimidation by political thugs.

Oni stated further that: "I want Ekiti people to come out enmass on Saturday, June 18, to vote for me and elect me as their governor.
"There will be adequate security for you; the security personnel will not allow intimidation and harassment of the people to freely exercise their voting rights.

"The desire to remove the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government and free Ekiti from abject poverty, backwardness and free government workers from perpetual slavery is a joint project of all us.
"We all have roles to play; don't stay back; be counted to be among the group of 'Ekiti Koya, OO To Ge.'

"You need to use your vote, which is your power, to determine your future. Don't sell your vote. If you sell your vote to the APC, you have called for another four years of suffering and slavery.

"If you have not collected your permanent voter's card, go to the INEC office without delay."

Leaders of the six political parties, while pledging their support for Oni, said, "we are here to pledge our support for Segun Oni and we are using this forum to tell members and supporters of the six political parties to thumbprint the symbol of SDP which is a white horse in the Saturday, June 18, election."

They said their decision was in the best interest of the Ekiti people and urged their members to embark on a house-to-house campaign for Segun Oni.

While welcoming the leaders of the parties, Oni thanked them and their governorship candidates.

He told them that rescuing Ekiti from "the jaws of the oppressors of Ekiti" was a joint project of all Ekiti people and assured the leaders that they would be counted among the group of 'Ekiti Koya, Oo To Ge.'

Owo massacre calls for sober reflection~ S'west PDP|Ojaomonews

The south west chapter of the People's Democratic Party, PDP has expressed shock at the killings of worshippers in Owo on Sunday right inside a church.

The party said the darstadly act of terror in the Lord's sanctuary shows the level of man's inhumanity to man and terrorism taken too far by a government who has reduced Nigerian nation to Hobbesian state of nature where life was said to be- "poor, brutish, nasty and short".

According to a statement from the office of PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary and signed by Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP said; "The shocking news of the killings of about 50 innocent worshippers inside a Catholic Church in Owo on Sunday by suspected Fulani bandits marked a dark chapter in the annals of such attacks in the south west and stands condemned in strongest term

"It is unheard of that some unscrupulous elements could choose a soft target like a church to unleash mindless killings of innocent worshippers on a Sunday desicrating the holiness of God's temple and send fellow human beings to their early graves and many maimed for life

"The unfortunate incident of Owo massacre thus called for sober reflection and a clarion call to all and sundry of the geo political zone to be more security conscious and not to take the threat by Fulani jihadists to over run the entire south west ahead of 2023 elections with kid gloves

"In a saner clime, the ocassion of Owo massacre deserved one week of national mourning while Government activities grounded in sympathy with the loss of innocent souls but the contrary is the case with the Buhari-led administration which had turned Nigeria into a killing field while no proactive steps have been taken to stem the tide. Our ruling party is busy holding dinner party and preparing for a botched primary while issuing a press statement condemning the killings"

"We therefore comiserate with the families of the victims and prays that God should give them the courage to bear the huge loss as we identify with the good people of Ondo state in this period of monumental national tragedy"

Ekiti Poll: Oyebamiji, APC candidate begs school pupils to convince parents to vote him

...June 18 is payback time for repressing us -Teachers

A pro-Segun Oni group, the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State of turning schools compounds in the state into campaign grounds for its governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji.
The EBBS spokesman, Idowu Adelusi, in a press statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, said when the ruling party discovered lately that it was likely to lose the June 18 election to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, "it resorted to doing the unthinkable by going to secondary schools to beg pupils to convince their parents to vote for BAO."
Though the teachers, EBBB learned, told the campaign team that the teachers would use the election day to pay back the Kayode Fayemi-led administration with disgrace for forcing them to teach with empty stomachs.
The EBBB described this move of the APC as "a reckless child abuse and cowardly act by a government which often claims to be advocate of child's rights protection."
It queried the morality behind carrying political campaigns to students and teachers in their schools.
The group recalled that the APC had earlier planned to disenfranchise many of the teachers "so that they are not able to vote on the election day, because of strong belief in the government's circle that they will vote for the SDP candidate instead of BAO.
"The government had schemed to collect their PVCs from them at N10,000 per card, and later return them after they had changed the original voting destination on the card to a far destination.
"But the plan was bursted and the teachers refused to release their PVCs.
"Should the APC throw morality into the wind because it wants to get Oyebanji into power at all costs, forgetting that the teachers and workers who the Fayemi administration had told to go to hell are not morons?" the EBBB asked.
The group's spokesman revealed that the chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. B. J. Abegunde, was recruited by the BAO Campaign Organisation to lead the team and that he had been going round secondary schools, trying to persuade both teachers and pupils to go for BAO.
"The TESCOM boss was even quoted to have told the teachers that since Oyebanji's parents and spouse are teachers, he would be a teachers-friendly governor.
"However, the teachers were quick to reply the TESCOM boss that Oyebanji was Secretary to the State Government (SSG) that has refused to pay the retired teachers their pensions and gratuities.
"They said 'it is the same government that is making us to teach with empty stomach; a government that is owing us arrears of salaries; a government that has not paid our leave bonuses since 2018.
"We currently have hundreds of teachers on grade level 15  by promotion, but who are collecting level 12 salaries; there are promotions without financial backing.
"Most of the incentives teachers were enjoying were cancelled by Governor Fayemi.
"Do you expect the teachers to hope for anything better from Oyebanji?'"
Adelusi revealed that in most schools visited by Abegunde and his team, the teachers were too cold towards them, although they decided to play along with the BAO team to avoid been penciled in for sack.
"Similarly, some government officials who were conscripted into the Abegunde team were not on the same page with their boss on the mission, as this could be seen through their body language as well," he said.

Former Ekiti State governor and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni, has promised the people of the state a robust security of lives and property, create a secured environment comparable to 2010 crime level with an ultimate goal of zero crime rate in Ekiti if he is elected as the governor in the June 18 governorship election.

Oni stated this when a group of farmers in the state paid him a solidarity visit at Ifaki-Ekiti last weekend and pledged to support him to win the governorship election.

As reported in a press statement made available by Idowu Adelusi, the spokesman of Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), a pro-Segun Oni group, to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Chief Timothy Orilogbon and Chief Babatunde Ilori, who led the farmers, told Oni that the purpose of their visit was to draw from him promises to tackle problem of insecurity which had driven them away from their farms.

They also cited his promise to assist farmers with incentives to boost food production.

The duo, who spoke on behalf of others, said, "Your Excellency, this is our first visit to you since you showed interest to become our governor again.

"We are farmers speaking on behalf of the entire farmers in Ekiti. We have no other means of living, except farming.

"The fear of killer herdsmen and kidnappers have driven us away from our farms; many of us have been killed, some were maimed and our wives and daughters were raped in the farm. What are you doing about this sir?"

While responding, Oni said he would put a stop to insecurity bedevilling the state, "even though Governor Kayode Fayemi, with his Phd in War Studies, failed woefully to tackle the problem."

He assured everybody living in the state of a robust security.

His words: "I can assure everybody living in this state of a new dawn, if I am elected as governor of this state on June 18. A new dawn implied freedom for everybody to go about their lawful duties, freedom for the farmers to go about their farming activities without being attacked by killer herdsmen.

"No longer will criminals come to kill you on your farms or destroy your crops or rape your wives and daughters. When I said something, I mean it; I will put a stop to the nonsense."

To achieve this, the Baba Ijo of Edward Jones Methodist Cathedral, Ifaki-Ekiti promised to centralise the intelligent security control system; apply local-intercommunity security such as the Amotekun and other local innovations.

He continued:  "I will  establish a comprehensive statewide security and surveillance programme; secure the forests and highways and embark on large scale street lighting project across communities in Ekiti."

Oni also promised  to assist the farmers to access credit lines, provide fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides and seedlings to boost production, as he did during the first term administration.
He, therefore, urged farmers and everybody in the state to come out enmass on June 18 to go to their respective polling units and cast their votes for him.

Oni said to change Ekiti for better was a responsibility of  all Ekiti people, "no one should sit on the fence, no one should be left out, they should fear no foe, and the security agencies will be on the ground to prevent intimidation and harassment."
