2023: Atiku's emergence, Red Card for APC ~S'west PDP|Ojaomonews

The opposition People's Democratic Party, PDP has challenged the ruling APC to brace up for the iminent defeat that awaits it at the 2023 general elections following the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party's flag bearer during the PDP's presidential primary on Saturday.

The PDP in a press release signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary south west chapter, Chief Sanya Atofarati said the successful conduct of the presidential primary of the party was a clear indication that the opposition party is a step ahead of the 'confusion-proned' APC under a ruderless leader.

"The PDP has once again demonstrated it's capacity to manage it's affairs and provide leadership at critical time of nation's history to meet the yearnings of millions of Nigerian people who have been erroneously led by a 'one chance' clueless regime for the past seven years

"Our Party's highly successful presidential primary at MKO Abiola Stadium yesterday, speaks volume of PDP's track record of organizational prowess, openess, transparency and a valuable lesson to learn in internal democracy.

"Nigerians who watched the carnival event beamed live on national TV cannot but appreciate the beauty of democracy being displaced by the country's oldest political party under a peaceful atmosphere of a united family.

"The emergence of our candidate through a free fair and credible process is already a source of worry to the crisis infested and confusion proned APC whose major preoccupation has been postponing the evil days by its endless shifting of its presidential primary.

"The waiting game is over as Atiku's emergence, a veteran in the struggle and accomplished politician of this generation signals an automatic red card for the APC whose rigging machine would be dismantled in 2023 by a massive vote for the PDP by the Nigerian people who have been pauperized, dehumanized, and defenceless by APC's misrule since 2015

"However, we must commend all the contenders in the keenly contested primary for their show of sportsmanship, understanding and camaraderie as we believed that the victory was for the PDP big family even though the task ahead is enormous hence the need for magnanimity in victory.

“On Education, the governor has brought to end the age-long ownership tussle between Osun and Oyo State regarding the ownership of LAUTECH and has since then been working on the expansion of more satellite campuses for the institution.

“Not only that, Governor Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde also gave an order for a 25% reduction in the tuition fees of the institution. The basic education in the state has become free and accessible to all with the provision of basic amenities in our various public schools.

“In the past three years the administration led Seyi Makinde has embarked on the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of various roads in the state that would help boost the economy of the state, this he has done without leaving out the welfare of civil servants and continuous care for retirees who get their entitlement as and when due.

“Of all states in the nation, Oyo State had good management during the covid19 era. Agriculture has had a good boost during the last three years as youth and elders are taken through a vibrant mechanized training of both cash crop and food crop training without leaving out livestock training as well and being empowered with funds, to begin with.

“The transport sector of the state also got an appreciable boost with the creation of PMS which has become a model for other states of the nation, proper funding of PMS, and construction of the Ojoo and Challenge bus standard terminal.

“On security, the state has witnessed a sharp improvement in the security of lives and property, and the state Security codenamed Amotekun has been of great help in the journey.

“Sports and Tourism have taken a great improvement as well with the upgrading of the Lekan Salami sports complex, funding of the Sports Council, and funding of various tourist attraction centers in the state he reiterated.

“All these that have been achieved by the people loving governor within this short period of three years, show how blessed Oyo State is to have him at the helm of affairs.

“This period is another electioneering period, I would beseech the people of Oyo State not to be swayed by those who have nothing to add to the development of the State and support the Seyi Makinde mantra beyond 2023 as this guarantee a better dividend of democracy to the people of Oyo State.

“It is therefore my prayer that may God continue to increase our dearest governor in wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state beyond 2023 with the support of the good people of the state.” Ambassador Arapaja concluded.

Ekiti people will not accept absentee governor again -Group

....Asks Oyebanji, APC to concede defeat

A pro-Segun Oni group, the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), has said that since the state governor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, has owned up to being an absentee governor who preferred to rule Ekiti from diaspora, the admission is a clear signal of what Ekiti people should expect, if his "anointed boy" and the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, is elected as the next governor of the state.

The EBBB quoted Oyebanji as telling Ekiti people during his electioneering campaign that he would continue with 'the good works, policies and styles" of his boss which he adjudged to be the best style of governance.

In the light of this, the EBBB advised the APC to concede defeat without delay to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Segun Oni, "because Ekiti people will not vote for an absentee governor-son who is certain to continue with the policies and style of his political father," noting that the state's meagre resources won't continued to be expended on frivolities.

The EBBB spokesman, Idowu Adelusi, has through a press statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, said Fayemi, during a popular television programme, had said "I do spend more time in Abuja than Ekiti. I know some people feel it. Certainly, I spend more time in Abuja. But you know, that shouldn’t bother anyone beyond perception level, bother.

"'It is whether it is telling on my performance as a governor that should be worrying."

Adelusi, therefore, asked if Fayemi did tell Ekiti people when he was canvassing for their votes for the second term that he would stay mostly outside the state to rule them by proxy. "Surely, his absentee governance has robbed Ekiti State essential duties and responsibilities of good governance."

He said that apart from the huge money which the governor had expended so far on chartered flights and maintaining himself, the aides, security and unforeseen contingencies which has been a big drainpipes on the state's meager resources, not many Ekiti people outside the state capital have seen the governor physically since he was sworn in on October 16, 2018.
"He is an invisible governor."

The group's spokesman continued: "In a democracy, governance requires the president or governor to be around his people physically; he should be accessible, touched, talked to and has to be seen during an emergency period within shortest possible time."

According to Adelusi, Fayemi had stated that his style of governance shouldn't bother those who elected him; the group's spokesman then asked, "who should feel bothered or burdened?, wondering if the votes he got to become the governor were not legitimate.
"Whereas, in developed countries where we copied democracy from, governance is regarded as a serious business," he said.

"During the first term administration of Asiwaju Segun Oni, Ekiti people witnessed good governance; a government of the people by the people; he wasn't an absentee governor or one junketing about.

"He never grandstanded, but saw governance as a serious business. That was responsible for the monumental achievement of his administration in all strata.

"That administration has till date remained the darling of Ekiti people, especially the workers and pensioners who got their pay regularly and were never owed a dime.

"He didn't borrow a dime and did not plunge the state into debt; and he left N10 billion, security votes, and two months' salary in the government coffers. These were possible because Oni is 'Mr. Due Process' and a prudent manager par excellence," he said.

Adelusi, therefore, called on the Ekiti people not to waste their time thinking on Oyebanji because providence has revealed early what to expect from him as governor, rather, they should go for the best product (Segun Oni) that they have tasted before and which quality has refused to diminish.

2023: S'West PDP Congratulates Makinde, Tasks Members To Rally Support For Gov's 2nd term|Ojaomonews

The unanimous victory of Governor Seyi Makinde at yesterday's primary of the People's Democratic Party PDP held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital has been described as a welcome development and a clarion call for the party to ensure that the Governor's bid for a second term is guaranteed.

The charge is contained in a congratulatory message to the governor and signed by PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati on Thursday.

In the letter, Atofarati congratulated the governor on his well deserved victory which according to him, attested to his wonderful performance in the Pace setter State during his first term.

"The south west PDP hereby congratulate the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Seyi Makinde on his well deserved and landslide victory at the yesterday's primary election of our great party returning him fit to run for a second term in office in 2023.

"Your victory at the shadow election was a confirmation of your acceptability, popularity and love by PDP stakeholders in Oyo State based on your humility, candour and your exemplary administrative style since assuming office three years ago.

"It is on record that Oyo State has witnessed tremendous growth in many areas of development indices under your watch and the least best wishes one can pray is for such trend to continue since one good turns deserves another.

"Having crossed the first hurdle, the months ahead should be expeditiously explored by all well meaning PDP stakeholders and members to work in harmony, eschew all forms of bitterness and rancour and rally support for Governor Seyi Makinde to make his second term aspiration a huge success in addition to winning both Ekiti and Osun governoship elections"

Election: Ekiti pensioners reveal Fayemi owes them N38bn

...Oni vindicated

While the Ekiti State governor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, has repeatedly denied owing pensions and gratuities due to retirees in Ekiti State, the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has revealed that the governor owes the pensioners to the tune of N38 billion.

According to a press statement by the spokesman of a pro-Segun Oni group, the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), Idowu Adelusi, made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, the group referred to the press conference addressed by the union in Akure, Ondo State capital, recently as an eye opener and "one that bursted the lies of the governor."

The union had disclosed that the Ekiti government was owing the retirees N38 billion.

EBBB, thus, wondered why Fayemi, who had been owing the state's workers "seven months unpaid salaries, four years unpaid leave and Christmas bonuses, N38 billion unpaid pensions and gratuities and who promoted workers without financial backing since 2018 when he assumed office, could rush for a presidential nomination form of N100 million."

Adelusi asked, "which is more important? Is it the workers' welfare or a personal ambition? The chunk of the provision of pensions and workers' salary in the 2022 Budget of Ekiti State has been diverted to fund the 'master's' presidential ambition and the 'son's' governorship ambition which is why it has been pretty difficult for the government to pay workers' salary."

The group's spokesman decried the denial of workers the reward for their labour, asking "why should any government want to refuse the retirees their gratuities and monthly pensions, having expended the productive period of their lives to serve the state? Why should these aged people be made to suffer as if we will not one day become retirees?"

Adelusi quoted the Public Relations Officer of the NUP in the South-West, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, as saying, "you can imagine if this type of governor becomes the presdent of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; what will happen to pensioners? Won't they die in penury?"

Adelusi said the coming of former governor and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni, was to put an end to "the machinations of the two smart 'Ifas' who have cornered the commonwealth of Ekiti people and appropriated it for themselves, their families and political associates."

He said the Oni-led administration was not part of the those that owed the pensioners N38 billion, explaining that when Oni came on board in 2007, he paid all the arrears of gratuity and pensions right from the time of the old Ondo State which he meet on ground "and continued the payment of pensions, gratuities, workers' salaries and other entitlements regularly till he left the government in 2010."

He added that "during Oni's administration, the retirees were paid on 20th; teachers on 21st; local government staff on 22nd; civil servants on 23rd, and political appointees on 24th of every month.

"Oni set the target that all retiring civil servants should be paid their gratuity within 60 days of retirement.

"He did not see regular payment of workers' salaries as an achievement, but a normal and necessary thing to do, as he believed every worker is entitled to his or her salary at the end of every month.

"This is unlike what obtains under Fayemi where workers have to embark on fasting and prayer for payment that is done at first or second week of the new month.

"The former governor never sacked any worker, but instead recruited 4,000 fresh ones cutting across all strata, unlike the Fayemi and Fayose administrations which saw the sacking of workers employed by each other as if competing for medals.

"Let the BAO Campaign Organisation and the APC continue to dish out lies, thinking that Ekiti people are fools and would be taken in by their lies; we shall always burst it with truth, because truth is constant and Ekiti people have queued behind Segun Oni who they know as Omoluabi who has never deceived them."

Ekiti Election: Fayemi bribed 16 LG NULGE chiefs with N8m to lobby workers against Oni, group alleges

A pro-Segun Oni group, the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB) has accused the Ekiti State governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, of giving N8 million to the16 local government chairmen of the National Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) in the state as bribe to lobby local government workers not to vote for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni, in the June 18 governorship election.

According to the group, the 16 NULGE chairmen, who are to share the money at N500,000 per person, were told to tell the workers that if Oni became the governor, he would ask the workers to present their certificates as a prelude to retrenching them, adding that he would also be hostile to workers.

EBBB, in a press statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by its spokesman, Idowu Adelusi, said Fayemi "who is owing the local government workers five months salaries" found it more important to conscript the NULGE chairmen "for the dirty job with a whopping sum of N8 million" instead of paying the workers' salaries.

Adelusi said the chairmen had been told to go back to their respective councils and tell the workers that Segun Oni was coming with "a policy of operation show your certificate," in order to retrench workers, among other obnoxious policies.

"Following the governor's order, the president of the union was seen going to the Local Government Service Commission to campaign to local government workers in all the local government areas and local council development areas.

"Notwithstanding diverting salary arrears and deductions of civil servants, teachers and local government workers to the campaign fund of Biodun Oyebaniji Campaign Organisation, the Fayemi-led administration has again diverted the money he had projected to pay part of the owed local government workers' salaries before the election to buy official cars for the new chairmen of the local government and local council development areas.

" This was contained in a circular dated May 23, 2022 released by the Ministry of Local Government Affairs and signed for the Permanent Secretary by Mr Abereola.  Part of the money was also to be used to pay severance allowance of former council chairmen and also shared to the governor's political associates," Adelusi said.

The EBBB spokesman stated further that "Fayemi decided to embark on this shameful blackmail, supposing   that Ekiti workers are morons and not wise enough to discern between good and bad governance.

"He promised to pay them some of their arrears before the election, but decided lately to suspend it till after the election.

"The Fayemi-led administration is disturbed by the rapid way its image is going down, a development that has forced the people not to want to have anything to do with the APC governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebaniji, who they have seen as a Fayemi incarnate and continuity of Fayemi's repressive policies on the workers.

"How can a government elected by the people tell the workers that leave bonus is never  a right and payment of salary will always come after legal and illegal deductions have been done with peanuts left which are insufficient to pay the workers, but the same government would rush to blame insufficient allocation from Abuja and the dwindling economy?"

Adelusi said Ekiti people were now wiser and waiting to use their votes to remove the APC government "and install Segun Oni who they trust because he did it before and his former administration (2007 to 2010) has not been surpassed by the successive administrations."

Why I want artisans, traders, drivers, okada riders to vote for me -Segun Oni

Former governor of Ekiti state,
Asiwaju Segun Oni, who is also the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate has told the non-public sector workers in the state to vote for him in the June 18 Ekiti governorship election to enjoy good governance.

"I am appealing to all the tailors, bricklayers, vulcanizers,  mechanics, hairdressers, farmers, traders, commercial drivers, commercial motorcycle operators, welders and all technicians in Ekiti to give me your votes and elect me as your governor.

"Which ever party's candidate that neglects you does it at his own peril. I have always held you in high esteem.
Oni said that during his first term administration, he instituted financial empowerment scheme which guaranteed  interest-free microcredit loans to the artisans and drivers and lifted so many people from poverty, lack and wants till date, as many used the money to finance their businesses.

Reacting to what the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate has been saying,  Oni said, "If anybody or candidate is telling you that Ekiti does not have money to do all these, ask them to explain how they have spent the monthly allocations and other Ekiti monies.

"Governance is about being prudent and judiciously expending the resources of the state for overall development of the state.
"I, Segun Oni, prudently managed the state resources to achieve much which has remained unsurpassed by the successive administrations in Ekiti till date.

"I will do much more better if you re-elect me as your governor. Don't listen to the deceits of the APC and PDP; they are vampires."

According to a press statement issued by the spokesman of the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB) in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Oni, the Social Democratic Party(SDP) governorship candidate in the June 18  Ekiti governorship election, stated this during interview with the pro-Segun Oni group, at Ifaki-Ekiti recently.

The SDP candidate, who is seeking for the votes of Ekiti people to win the election and succeed the outgoing Governor John Kayode Fayemi, said government alone could not employ every able hands, but that his coming as governor would encourage self employment by providing the enabling environment.

He continued: "Provisions of regular power supply, drinkable water, small scale loans and adequate security by the government will encourage small scale businesses.  Those selling sachet water, soft drinks, tailors, welders, hairdressers, barbers, television, radio and phone repairers will make sales.

"This is why my second coming is important to address these problems of irregular power supply, lack of drinkable water, stopping insecurity and providing loans for small scale businesses to end unemployment."

He urged the people to go out to collect their permanent voter'd cards, saying "if you want a change, if you don't want this APC government that has impoverished you not to return, vote for Segun Oni and the SDP."

Ekiti: Pro-Oni group accuses Fayemi of illegal recruitment of workers
May 21st, 2022

A pro- Segun Oni group, the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB) has accused the Ekiti State Governor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi of secretly embarking on a recruitment exercise into the state civil and local government services without recourse to the due process.

According to the press statement made available to Ojaomonews by the Spokesman of the group, Idowu Adelusi to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Fayemi was alleged to have completed the distribution of hurriedly and haphazardly prepared and processed employment letters without application forms, examinations, interviews and as recent as of Monday 16, June 2022.

As a matter of fact, most of those given this emergency letters of appointment by the Local Government Service Commission, are not Ekiti  indigenes and probably being recruited to perpetrate the APC rigging plan. "However, Ekiti people are watching with keen interest and monitoring activities of the new recruits," said the group.

The group has assured that if Segun Oni becomes the governor, as a humanist and friend of the workers, he will not sack any worker who is qualified, properly recruited according to the extant rules and regulations.

Adelusi also added that Oni will reinstate the 700 sacked workers of the Ekiti State University(EKSU) which the Fayemi administration has refused to return to work despite the court order.

In 2019, Fayemi and the former Secretary to the State Government,  Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) who is now the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate,  deceived, lied, and swindled many unemployed youths by selling employment forms to them but without any letters of employment and the refund of money for the failed promises.

The immediate former governor,  Ayodele Fayose on the eve of his departure also embarked on recruitment of 2000  workers  which Fayemi sacked immediately he took over even though Fayose did the same by sacking the workers  Fayemi employed at the tail end of his administration in 2014.

The unemployed Ekiti youths had always been at the receiving end of the bitter political rivalry between the two political parties whereas when Oni took over in 2007, he retained the workers employed by Fayose and they have remained in the service till date.

GOV. SEYIMAKINDE, THE GENTLE ACHIEVER OF OYO|Ojaomonews

In the days of yore, when politics was war by other means, where brothers because of political differences, engaged one another in endless bitter feuds that lasted for generations and where politics was a do or die affair, it was a taboo for an opposition party to see anything good or commendable in the performance of the ruling party.

Oyo State southwest Nigeria has been the hotbed of real politic in the true sense of the world as the political capital of the present Yoruba nation before five states were carved out of the old western region. A pace setter in all facets of human and capital development in Nigeria, yet a region of contradictions due to age long centrifugal forces of disunity orchestrated by political gladiators of Nigeria's post independence era.

But the narrative appears to be changing in the Pace setter State since the emergence of His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde about three years ago.

Arguably the youngest governor to have ruled the 46 year-old State, Governor Makinde brought into governance youthful agility, uncommon vigour and creativity of a goal getter and today, Oyo State is better for it.

My close assessment of this gentle achiever reveals a man who talks little but works wonder as his footprints of landmark achievements can be seen and felt across the length and breadth of Oyo State in the areas of good road network, welfare of the citizens, security, education, health care and social amenities to mention but a few.

Governor Makinde is one leader who is progressive and development driven, a true lover of south west, who is comfortable with wining and dining with all manners of men including members of the opposition party in order to seek solution to nagging national problem.

I'm encouraged to put this piece together in reaction to the testimony of a serving APC member of Representatives from Oyo State, Hon. Shins Peller commending our own GSM for a job well done.

The member representing Iseyin/Kajola/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa Federal Constituency was quoted to have commended Governor Makinde describing him as a performing governor
He stated this at the flag off of the 76.67 kilometers Ogbomoso-Fapote- Iseyin road where he graced the occasion with Governor Makinde.

His words; "I know a lot of people would be surprised to see me here and the truth is, in life, as human beings, we must not be blinded by good things"

The lawmaker should be commended for speaking truth to power regardless of his political affiliation but at the same time the greater lesson should not be lost on the rest of us that we should eschew politics of bitterness but be objective in our judgement.

In conclusion, the PDP political family has every reason to thank their stars for having this shining star as the Governor of Nigeria's most sophisticated state at a time like this as the only one man standing in the entire south west and all hands must be on deck to rally round him to secure his well deserved second term and by extension and take over governance of the remaining south west states beginning from Osun and Ekiti this year

Oshiomhole- Fayemi face off exposes APC's house of fraud. ~S'West PDP|Ojaomonews

The PDP has reacted to a trending video footage of a startling revelation of electoral fraud orchestrated by Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi where he directed APC's former national Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole to rig election for the ruling party.

The opposition party in a press statement issued by Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary said the former Edo State Governor was not saying anything new but only confirming the APC falling house of fraud.

According to him, "The revelation by Oshiomhole should not come to anyone as a surprise but a confirmation that the APC is a party founded on fraud whose purported past electoral victories have been questionable.

"We have seen the electoral abracadabra perpetrated in Osun against PDP in 2018 and the insidious role played by Fayemi to rig PDP candidate out of his hard won victory after he had fraudulently laid seige using federal might to 'reclaim' Ekiti from PDP.

"Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate only yesterday, reminded Nigerians of how he was robbed of presidency through the APC rigging machine in 2019. These are not mere hear say but empirical facts that the PDP clearly won in 2019.

"Oshiomhole was only stating the obvious the same way another APC governor recently accused his fellow governors as Yahoo-yahoo governors.

"The PDP and other concerned Nigerians would continue to watch in amusement the tragic-comedy and the flip flops of the APC until they were swept away by the broom in 2023 even as more revelations would be made known to the public in days to come

Oni is a Leader We Can Trust, Say Igbo Youths

The aspiration of the former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni received a major boost as Igbo Youths in Ekiti promised to mobilise for him during the governorship election scheduled to hold on June 18.

The President-General of Igbo Youths in Ekiti, Mr. Ifeanyi Okon gave this assurance when he led a delegation of his members to Oni at the Campaign Office in Ado Ekiti penultimate Tuesday, described him “as one leader they can trust with their votes.”

Okon said the delegation, which comprised all the leaders from 16 Local Government Areas, appreciated Oni for honouring the group’s invitation to the inauguration of their society’s new state executive which took place recently.

According to him, Oni’s  presence convinced the Igbo youths in Ekiti that he is a leader and candidate we can give our votes to.

Also, Secretary, Igbo Youths in Ekiti, Isaac Obasi and Organising Secretary, Cosmas Eze said since Oni joined the SDP, the party had become popular and a household name in the state.

According to the press statement made available to the journalists by Idowu Adelusi, the spokesman for the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), a pro-Segun Oni group, in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, the two leaders said that Igbo Youths in Ekiti were marvelled by the large army of supporters supporting the former governor .

Oni who represented by his running mate, Otunba Ladi Owolabi, while addressing the group, said: “Youths are the future leaders. But as tomorrow and the future will forever remain evasive, my government will constructively engage them to provide responsible and responsive future leadership, so as to phase out their use for thuggery by politicians

The former governor berated the use of youths for thuggery during campaign and election periods by politicians, saying no politician “ever engaged their biological children for criminal activities, but they go for other people’s children because they are disadvantaged.

“I initiated programmes, during my first term administration, engaging the youth constructively and giving them better orientation; but these were jettisoned by my successors.  I will go back to them so as to make thuggery among the youths an unprofitable venture,” he added.

“I will encourage self-employment, provide the enabling environment and collaborate with financial institutions to provide entrepreneurial take-off for youths through granting of small scale loans.

“I will provide employment for the youth, both in the civil service and in politics, in order to involve them in the decision-making process, for tomorrow’s leadership cultivation.”

Owolabi in his speech recalled that during the civil war, the late Ado-Ekiti-based businessman Pa Okoli and other Igbo businessmen left Ekiti for their states and returned to the state, meeting their  properties intact.

“This is to demonstrate the Omoluabi ethos and accommodating spirit in the Ekiti people. All other ethic groups living and working in Ekiti are enjoying their stay and their businesses are blossoming.

“I am appealing to the Igbos, Hausas, Ibibios, Ebirras, Idomas, Igedes, the Fulanis and others to collect their voter cards to vote for Asiwaju Segun Oni as your governor.”

Students blockade of highways, Nigeria sitting on fire ~PDP

Following the continuous occupation of major highways in the country by rampaging Nigerian students, the PDP has warned that the present APC-led administration will soon plunge the nation into a serious socio-political crisis worse than the civil war.

The opposition People's Democratic Party South West chapter stated this in a reaction to the blockade of the major highway that connects the south to the north leading to gridlock on the highway as motorists make detour to avoid the traffic.

The party in a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary Chief Sanya Atofarati yesterday said Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder if the APC-led administration fails to urgently address the crisis in educational sector and stop playing the ostrich.

"The needless agony that travellers went through accross the south west major highways by protesting students of Nigerian universities is better imagined than experienced as quality man hour was spent by unsuspecting Commuters plying the roads.

"This is coming weeks  after students bodies across the country had warned Buhari's government over his refusal to meet ASUU's demand, but the government preferred to look the other way and playing the ostrich while our children's future is being destroyed

"The students virtually grounded vehicular movement in all major roads across the south west yesterday and it was a clear signal that similar scenario would be replicated in other parts of the country in days to come going by the Nigerian students resolve to force the government to engage the university teachers.
"Recall that the students body had earlier said that though, election is important but education is more important the students are now saying-
“We have warned government not to allow student move to the streets before resolving their impasse with ASUU. Now that we are here, we will continue to protest untill the schools are reopened"

"The PDP thus appeal to the Nigerian government under President Muhammadu Buhari to arrest the incoming implosion in the country by declaring a state of emergency in education if that is the only thing he would achieve before the crucial governoship election in Ekiti and Osun states. A stitch in time".

Ekiti 2022: I promise better life for Ekiti workers -Segun Oni, SDP candidate

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate and former Ekiti State governor, Asiwaju Segun Oni, has promised a better life for government workers and pensioners in the state, if he should emerge as winner in the June 18 Ekiti governorship election.

"I want the workers and pensioners to take me for my words. After my inauguration in October this year, be bold enough to confront me with these  promises. I did it before during my first administration.

"I treated the workers like kings. I did not allow the pensioners to suffer. I know the importance of regular payment of salaries to the state economy," he said.

" I heard that the All Progressive Congress (APC) had been saying that we are no longer in oil boom period, and it is no longer possible to meet the workers needs and that Segun Oni has been deceiving them.

"A former administration in one of the states in the South West had been telling the workers no money, no money but when another political party took over power, not only the workers got their salaries regularly before end of the month, but were paid the 13th month salary every year. Things have changed for better for workers in that state. Let me ask, " where has the allocations of that state been kept before now?

" The same scenario is playing out in Ekiti with the Fayemi administration. The state's monthly allocation is a commonwealth of Ekiti people, not for a few individuals, it should be used to develop the people and the state. During my first administration, I used it to develop the people and the state, and still left N10B and two months allocations and security votes in the government coffers when I left the government."

The SDP candidate, who disclosed this to the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), a pro-Segun Oni group, during a chat at Ifaki-Ekiti at the weekend, assured the workers saying, "if you give me your bloc vote to win the election, irregular payment of salaries, denial of promotion or promotion without financial backing will become a thing of the past in Ekiti."

According to a press statement made available to journalists by the group's spokesman, Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Oni decried the denial of workers the reward for their labour, asking "why should any government want to refuse the retirees their gratuities and monthly pensions, having expended the productive period of their lives to serve the state?

"Why should these aged people be made to suffer as if we will not one day become retirees?"

The former governor said it was appalling to hear that government was owing the workers or had denied or delayed their promotions or have promoted them without financial backing.  Somebody on level 14 will still be collecting level 10 salary.

"I was even told that the APC government, under Fayemi, has not paid the workers their leave and Christmas bonuses since 2019, apart from the fraudulent promotions and some unpaid months salaries. This is very unfair.

"My government will obey the court judgement to reinstate the workers of the Ekiti State University sacked by the Fayemi-led administration. I will also set up a panel to review unfair treatments done to workers by the administration.

"During my first administration, I did not see regular payment of workers' salaries as an achievement, but a normal and necessary thing to do, as every worker is entitled to his or her salary at the end of every month.

"I paid all arrears of gratuities and pensions of retirees from 1993 in the old Ondo State to the time I became the governor. I paid over N9 billion without borrowing a kobo.

"I instituted regular payment of retirees pensions and gratuities within 90 days of retirement and regular payment of pensions.
"I did not borrow a dime from anywhere throughout my tenure to run the government, despite numerous and outstanding projects I executed.

"Don't give your votes to Biodun Oyebanji, the APC candidate; he would be a continuity of repressive Fayemi regime.

"Don't allow anybody to collect your voter's cards from you; don't succumb to intimidation and harassment from anybody, be it government officials or labour leaders.
"The decision to free yourselves from slavery is in your hands," he admonished.

'Tender your resignation letters now' -PDP tells Malami, Ngige|Ojaomonews

The Attorney General of the federation and Minister of Justice Mallam Shehu Malami has been urged to safe his name and professional career by quitting the Buhari's cabinet without further delay.

The opposition People's Democratic Party, PDP also enjoined the minister to safe the country from international embarrassment by his refusal to resign his appointment from a government after openly declaring to run for the governoship election in his home state and obtained his party's nomination form.

According to a press release from the office of South West PDP and signed by Chief Sanya Atofarati, the party said:

"We thank many Nigerians who have raised their voices in defense of democracy by calling the APC-led administration under Buhari to follow the path of constitutionality and common sense by ordering his ministers with political ambition to first tender their resignation letters before pursuing their political interests which was complied with by some of the affected ministers.

"But the case of the number one law officer of the state who declared over the weekend that he has not resigned as the Attorney General of the Federation but had only withdrawn from the Kebbi governorship race was both pathetic and appalling.

It shows the impunity and lawlessness in the APC orchestrated by an Attorney General who had from day one been plotting to circumvent the rule of law in order to preserve his unbridled ambition to be governor of Kebbi State until the presidential directive.

Malami would have succeeded in eating his cake and having it if he had not been called to order by the ordinary law of the land which he has been flouting with reckless abandon.

"The PDP therefore urges the embattled minister to safe the noble profession and the country from international embarrassment by resigning his position now as he's not qualify to stay in that office the day he signified his interest to seek political office as a serving minister of Justice and obtained a non-refundable form for N50m.

His co -traveller, Dr Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, who had earlier resigned to pursue his 2023 presidential aspiration but suddenly withdrew the resignation letter in order to keep his job was a clear manifestation of executive recklessness by a minister who presided over a ministry under which university lecturers were on strike for six months and the presiding officer found it convenient to abandon the aggrieved workers at the negotiation table to pursue his presidential aspiration

“The PDP therefore align with the opinion expressed by Mr Femi Falana (SAN) that Since the resignation of the former Ministers has taken effect they cannot return to the cabinet either on their own volition or on the directive of the President. The resignation of the Ministers is not a cabinet reshuffle. It is akin to the removal of the former Ministers by the President" period!

Ekiti Poll: My govt will engage the youths constructively, make thuggery unprofitable venture - Oni, SDP candidate

"Youths are the future leaders; but as tomorrow and the future will forever remain evasive, my government will constructively engage them to provide responsible and responsive future leadership, so as to phase out their use for thuggery by politicians."

This assertion was made by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate and former Ekiti State governor, Asiwaju Segun Oni, on Tuesday, when Igbo youths, under the umbrella of Igbo Youths In Ekiti, paid him a solidarity visit at his campaign office in Ado-Ekiti.

The former governor berated the use of youths for thuggery during campaign and election periods by politicians, saying no politician ever engaged their biological children for criminal activities, "but they go for other people's children because they are disadvantaged."

"I initiated programmes, during my first term administration, engaging the youth constructively and giving them better orientation; but these were jettisoned by my successors.  I will go back to them so as to make thuggery among the youths an unprofitable venture," he added.

According to a statement made available to journalists by the spokesman of a pro-Oni platform, Ekiti Build Back Better  (EBBB), Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, Oni, who was represented by his running mate, Otunba Ladi Owolabi, said "if I win in the June 18 governorship election, I will provide training and skill acquisition programmes for youths, to reduce unemployment.

"I will encourage self-employment, provide the enabling environment and collaborate with financial institutions to provide entrepreneurial take-off for youths through granting of small scale loans.

"I will provide employments for the youth, both in the civil service and in politics, in order to involve them in decision-making process, for tomorrow's leadership cultivation."

The governorship running mate, Owolabi, in his welcome address, thanked the visitors, assuring them that the SDP government, under Oni, would be responsible and responsive.

He recalled that during the civil war, the late Ado-Ekiti-based business mogul, Papa Okoli, left Ekiti for his home town and that when he returned, he met his properties intact. "This is to demonstrate the Omoluabi ethos and accommodating spirit in the Elite people. All other ethic groups living and working in Ekiti are enjoying their stay and their businesses blossoming.

"I am appealing to the Igbo, Hausa, Ibibio, Ebirra, Idoma, Igede, the Fulani and others to collect their voter's cards to vote for Asiwaju Segun Oni as your governor.
"The achievement of Oni during his first term administration has, till date, remained unsurpassed. He will do more and provide the enabling environment for your businesses to thrive."
he President-General of Igbo Youths in Ekiti, Mr. Ifeanyi Okon, who led the delegation comprising all the leaders from the 16 local government areas of the state, appreciated Oni for honouring the invitation to the inauguration of their society's new state executive which took place recently, saying that his presence convinced the Igbo youths in Ekiti that he was a leader and candidate to give their votes in the June 18 election.
He promised to mobilise the entire Igbo community in Ekiti on the election day to vote for Oni and the SDP.

Similarly, the group's Secretary, Mr. Isaac Obasi, and the Organising Secretary, Comrade Cosmas Eze, said since Oni joined the SDP, the party had become popular and a household name in Ekiti, adding that Igbo youths in Ekiti were marvelled by the large army of supporters shouting "give us Oni" in all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Probe Buhari's super rich ministers now.  ~PDP|Ojaomonews

Reacting to what it called 'belated' sack of ministers in Buhari's cabinet yesterday, the South West People's Democratic Party, PDP has called on the anti-graft agency, the EFCC to probe the source of stupendous wealth of the disgraced ministers immediately.

The charge was contained in a press statement signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Sanya Atofarati on Thursday.

The statement reads;

"The belated decision of Buhari announcing the sack of his ministers who have suddenly become presidential aspirants while still serving was a spontaneous reaction occasioned by public resentment, criticisms from eminent Nigerians and civil society groups condemning the brazen act of lawlessness and impunity which had become the hallmark of the APC since the party came to power 7 years ago

"Buhari would go down in history as the only president who inaugurated his cabinet ministers six months after assuming power and has refused to reshuffle or rejig the cabinet ever since thereby giving room for all kinds of funny character in government.

Amidst grave insecurity in the land, collapsed economy, infrastructure decay, fuel crisis, ASUU prolonged strike, unemployment and high cost of living across board, those who are saddled with fixing the country are in a rat race to purchase presidential nomination forms.

"We drew the attention of the Nigerian public in 2018 when Fayemi as a Federal Minister, refused to resign his appointment before joining the governoship race in Ekiti using all the paraphernalia of office to force his way to the Government House, the same pattern the likes of Ngige, Akpabio, Malami and their co travellers are toeing.

"This impunity can not stand. Now that the sacked ministers have been stripped of their high horse mentality, the EFCC should begin an immediate probe of the source of their stupendous wealth leading to the purchase of presidential nomination forms at outrageous N100m! going forward"

ASUU Prolonged Strike: Buhari Fiddles As Nigeria Burns. ~S'West PDP|Ojaomonews

The South West People's Democratic Party (PDP) has lampooned the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC under President Muhammadu Buhari for laying the foundation for civil unrest that may threaten the corporate existence of the country if care is not taken.

The party in a reaction to the 12 weeks strike action recently declared by the striking university teachers said the 'criminal silence' by Buhari did not help matter as it portends nothing but height of insensitivity and cluelessness.

The opposition party in a statement signed by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati Wednesday said;

"One watches with bated anger the frustration on the faces of our students in higher institutions of learning as they planned to begin a nation wide demonstration that would cripple the Nigeria's fragile economy with a view to force the Federal Government to yield to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities ASUU who had vacated the lecture rooms since February

"An additional 12 weeks of sitting at home by our helpless students would mean they have lost six months of academic calendar which is quite unfortunate and should be condemned by all well meaning citizens of this country

"We feel the pains and anguish of the Nigerian youths whose future is being wantonly destroyed by the present crop of rudderless vagabonds in power some of whom have turned Nigeria into a theatre of the absurd where ministers of Education and Labour have abandoned their duty posts to pursue presidential ambition at a whopping N100million!

"The question on the lips of any right thinking person is who is in charge of Nigerian state? Do we have a President or a lame duck? In time like this, decisive action of a great leader and statesman is required to quench the raging fire but Buhari's criminal silence in the face of the recent three months sit at home ultimatum by ASUU shows a leadership bereft of ideas, lacking moral persuasion and legitimacy to remain in government.

Buhari behaves like the historical Emperor Nero who fiddles when Rome was burning.

The country cannot afford another ENDSARS riots if Nigerian students took to the streets.
"The PDP sympathizes with Nigerian people who are now lamenting  voting a wrong party in 2015 and 2019 but have seen the difference between oil and water".

Ekiti: My govt 'll lift people out of poverty, unemployment, says Oni, SDP Candidate
As the Ekiti State governorship election draws near, former governor of the state and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni, has decried the unemployment rate in the state, describing it as the main cause of rise in criminality and youths engaging in internet fraud and other unwholesome activities.

He promised to address the menace, if elected as governor of the state in the June 18 election.

According to a press statement issued by the spokesman of the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB) in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, Oni stated this when delegates of the EBBB, a pro-Segun Oni Campaign Organisation (SOCO) group, paid him a solidarity visit at Ifaki-Ekiti recently.

The SDP candidate, who is seeking for the votes of Ekiti people to win the election and succeed the outgoing Governor John Kayode Fayemi, said an idle mind was a devil's workshop, asserting that "Ekiti people have dignity; they are industrious, intelligent, brilliant and hardworking," adding that they only needed to be provided the necessary tools to prove their worth.

The former governor said government alone could not employ every able hands, but that his coming as governor would encourage self employment by providing the enabling environment.

He continued: "Provisions of regular power supply, drinkable water, small scale loans and adequate security by the government will encourage small scale businesses.

" If electricity supply is regular, those selling sachet water, soft drinks, tailors, welders, hairdressers, barbers, television, radio and phone repairers will make sales.

"This is why my second coming is important to address these problems of irregular power supply, lack of drinkable water, stopping insecurity and providing loans for small scale businesses to end unemployment.

"Nobody wants to be idle, if they can get something doing which will fetch them money to feed themselves and their families."
Oni recalled that during his first term, he was able to provide interest-free microcredit loans to Ekiti people.

"I established a financial empowerment scheme for many Ekiti people such as the bricklayers, mechanics, tailors, hairdressers, farmers, traders, commercial drivers, commercial motorcycle operators and welders through the interest-free microcredit loans scheme.

"This credit scheme lifted so many people from poverty, lack and wants till date as many used the money to finance their businesses," he recalled.

Oni said his administration would lift people from poverty and unemployment, calling on the people to reject the All Progressive Congress (APC) "which government is responsible for economic woes of the people."

He urged the people to go out to collect their permanent voter cards, saying "if you want a change, if you don't want this APC government that has impoverished you to return, if you said you like Segun Oni and you want me as your governor, you cannot like me by mouth, you must collect voters' cards and use them on the day of the election to reject the APC and vote for the SDP.
"The symbol of our party is a white horse."

Ekiti poll: I will revitalise education, return lost glory of Fountain of Knowledge, says Segun Oni|Ojaomonews

Former Ekiti State governor and candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the Saturday, June 18, governorship election, Asiwaju Segun Oni, has promised to revitalise education in the state and return her glorious acronym, Fountain of Knowledge.

Oni, who stated this during an interview with the Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB) at Ifaki-Ekiti recently, said he was disturbed by the underfunding and neglect of education in the state by successive administrations, claiming that the developmental programmes he had crafted to transform education in Ekiti State and place its tertiary institutions  on the same pedestal with their counterparts overseas were jettisoned by the Kayode Fayemi-led administration.

According to a press statement issued by the group's spokesman, Idowu Adelusi in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, the SDP candidate said "if the Ekiti people can come out enmass on June 18 to elect me as their governor, I will return the glory of this state as Fountain of Knowledge.  Ironically, the cistern has been without water. I will ensure regular payment of teachers' salary, special allowances and other entitlements.

" There will be regular promotion with financial backing; there will be trainings to bring out the best in them; I will introduce other incentives to motivate them to work. The tertiary institutions in the state will be properly funded to stop incessant strike by unions; I will provide more infrastructure for adequate learning."

The former governor recalled that during his first administration, he put in place proper funding for the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education as well as effective monitoring system for the primary and secondary schools, a development he said did not give room for truancy and laziness among the pupils and teachers.

He stated further that "my administration provided free lockers and chairs for students and tables and chairs for the teachers. I provided free textbooks, exercise books and laptops for the students.
"Ekiti, under my administration, happened to be the first state in the country to start the now popular free school feeding programme for primary and secondary schools.

"I re-introduced boarding system in public secondary schools with generating sets and modern Internet facilities.
"My administration as well introduced schools-based entrepreneurship programmes like bread baking, poultry production and production of exercise books and school chalks in public secondary schools through which the students could become self employed after leaving school.

"I awarded adequate and sustainable scholarships and bursaries to all qualified Ekiti students in tertiary institution's both at home and abroad without knowing the governor or government officials as prerequisite.

"We purchased free JAMB forms for students and arranged free three-month coaching for prospective candidates.  Many youths were prepared for and put on free educational trainings in overseas countries such as Portugal.

"We established two promising universities: The University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (TUNEDIK) and University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti (USTI) to expand Ekiti educational frontiers and meet the yearnings of the people in the areas of teaching, science and technology.

"The presence of the two institutions in their communities boosted the economy of the people and promoted infrastructural developments. Unfortunately, the two universities were summarily closed down by the Fayemi-led administration immediately I left office for no genuine reason.

"The establishment of the two universities never affected the funding of the existing Ekiti State University (EKSU). My administration established a link between EKSU and the Educational Trust Fund (ETF) which went a long way to assist the university in terms of infrastructure development; and up till now, most of the buildings on the university campus are ETF/TETFUND-funded.

"I also Increased the monthly subvention to the EKSU to take care of the shortfall in staff wage bill. It was never struggled for by the university or the staff unions before it was done. I facilitated a grand collaboration with a South Korean university for a two-year free students exchange programme and for the university to build a three-in-one standard laboratory complex for USTI, free.

"Arrangements were also made to move  30 high flying second year students from various departments in USTI to South Korea for a two-year Students Exchange Programme and for work to commence on a three-in-one Standard Laboratory Project.

"Two USTI lecturers had already been deployed as an advanced team to South Korea for training and to prepare the ground for the students, a year before the time. One of the lecturers sent to South Korea for the Students Exchange Programme never came back when the programme was discontinued and USTI was closed down."

Oni said if his administration had not been truncated, education will have advanced beyond what it is now at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, promising to use his second coming to put education in the  proper place.
"I, therefore, call on the people and the students who have attained voting age to collect their permanent voter cards to vote for me and the SDP to win the election."

Again! UK Recovers $23 Million In Loot Linked To Late Nigerian Dictator, Abacha|Ojaomonews

Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA) has recovered more than $23 million stolen from Nigeria by the country's late military dictator Sani Abacha, it said on Thursday, the latest in a series of similar recoveries around the world.

Abacha ruled Africa's most populous nation and top oil exporter from 1993 until his death in 1998, a period during which he stole up to $5 billion of public money, according to Transparency International. He was never charged.

The $23 million were recovered after seven years of litigation and international negotiation pursued by the NCA, at the request of the DOJ, the statement said. The funds will be transferred to the DOJ.

An NCA spokesperson did not immediately respond to a query about whether the funds would ultimately return to Nigeria. In the past, countries including the United States and Switzerland have repatriated Abacha loot there.

Ambode will defeat Sanwo-Olu in 2023 — Campaign group|Ojaomonews

Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation has vowed that the former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, would send the incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, out of office in 2023.

The chairman of AMCO and former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral resources, Wale Oluwo, who made this known on Sunday, said plans had been concluded to return Ambode to the governorship position in the state.

This is coming about a week after the Governor’s Advisory Council reportedly endorsed Sanwo-Olu for the second term in office.

The former governor’s group leader faulted GAC for endorsing Sanwo-Olu, saying the stance of GAC is not a total reflection of APC members.

Oluwo said “Ambode is seriously interested in what happens in Lagos”, noting that the former governor had indicated readiness to stand by his ideals.

In a statement gathered by Ojaomonews, he claimed that feasibility studies have been conducted and that their outcome showed Lagosians were not getting dividends of democracy under the present administration compared to what was obtainable during the previous administration in the state.

“Performance for performance, the administration of Sanwo-Olu cannot be compared to what Ambode achieved. You have to start with security and infrastructure, we can show a lot of things now. But for this government, well this is not the time to start tearing ourselves apart,” he said.

“The way that the GAC sponsored its candidate is the same way that we will do that for our own candidate too. And members of the party will have the option of determining which of the candidates, either AMCO or GAC, they will like to vote for.

We acknowledge that Sanwo-Olu has picked his nomination form, the AMCO candidate will also do his own. And the primary will happen.

“For AMCO, we are participating at all levels of the election. From Governorship to the House of Assembly. We will field candidates for all positions. Our candidate will not be Akinwunmi Ambode. That is not where we are going. We will present our own aspirant and he would challenge the governor for the seat in Lagos.

“The process of presenting our own candidate is almost concluded and I can assure you that by early next week, that candidate will be announced. The GAC is only promoting their own interest by announcing Sanwo-Olu’s as their candidate.”
