Man contests for women leader position in Kano

EXTRA: Young man contests for women leader position in Kano

Ameer Sarkee, a young man, is seeking to be elected the women leader of Kwankwasiyya Social Media Group.

The group is loyal to Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state.

A poster on Sarkee’s aspiration is currently circulating on social media. The position of women leader is typically held by a woman but is Sarkee out to prove a point?

Below are some reactions to Sarkee’s aspiration:

National Youths Summit: Fajana Ojoade hails Olujimi, commend participants for their excellent participation.

The immediate past Deputy Leader of Ekiti State House of Assembly Hon. Kingsley Ojoade Fajana rains encomium on Sen. Biodun Olujimi the ranking Senator  who is back to the red chamber. It never amazed and wondered me that the distinguished Senator facilitated such program in just two weeks she joined her colleagues in the red chamber after retrieving her mandate from the marauders and the enemies of democracy.

The involvement of 20 Youths Across Senatorial Districts of Ekiti State, in the ongoing seminar is a glory to us. Having a great woman of Valor like Sen Biodun Olujimi is a great value to Ekiti State and the nation.

This is an assurance that the dividends of democracy, national benefits and more good things will not elude Ekiti State. It's beneficial and reasonable to have a ranking Senator as a representative than the naive.

It's a welcome idea to be inculcated by our national leaders, Youths are the future of the nation, they takes over 65% of the country, they should be empowered in all areas in other to be effective and efficacious.

The participants which are photographers, editors, studio managers, musicians, scripts/Newswriters, new media officers and events planners were taught on how to be more creative, effective and useful to the society in this 21st century.

In a telephone chat with the participants by the eloquent ex-lawmaker Hon. Fajana Ojoade who is popular known as "Epitome of Loyalty" commends the participants for their well behaviors, excellent participation, commitment and uniqueness during the summit.

Victory for Sen. Dino Melaye, Court slams N100,000 against Nigerian govt over Melaye’s alleged falsehood trial

Mr Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, is charged with two counts bordering on giving false information to the police.
The Federal Government arraigned Melaye, alleging that he, sometime in April, 2017 deliberately gave false information to the police.
The judge, Justice Olasumbo Goodluck gave the order after the prosecution informed the court that their witnesses were not in court.
Goodluck held that by the provisions of Section 396 (4)(6) of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act, 2015, parties are entitled to five adjournments and nothing more.
The judge said she was not pleased with the attitude of the prosecution in the matter, especially when the matter was placed on fast track, day to day hearing and the defendant’s counsel comes from outside jurisdiction.
”A cost of N100, 000 is therefore awarded against the prosecution instead of N250, 000 prayed by the defendant’s counsel,” she ordered.
The judge said the trial was slated for November 19 and 20 and both dates of trial are stalled for failure of the prosecution to bring their witnesses to court.
Goodluck then adjourned the matter until December 5, for continuation of trial
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, N.O. Ezra informed the court that her witnesses were not in court.
Mr Ezra then prayed the court for an adjournment to enable them bring their witnesses.
Responding, defence counsel Olusegun Odubela, SAN, told the court that this was unfair to the defendant because the witness could not be more involved in Kogi election than the defendant who was a candidate in the election.
Mr Odubela added that the prosecution did not inform the court the whereabouts of their fourth witness.
” The court should be guided by the provisions of sections 396 (4)(6) of ACJA and 36 (4) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
” The prosecution has not adduced any cogent reasons why their witnesses are not available in court, in case the court grants them an adjournment, we will be asking for a cost of N250, 000, he said.

Mr Odubela further told the court that since last sitting on July 4, the prosecution could have known and inform the court and the defendant’s counsel who comes from another jurisdiction.

Senate President Ahmed Lawal Sworn in Sen. Biodun Olujimi as Senator

Biodun Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, took her oath of office to represent Ekiti South in the Senate.
The swearing in was done by the Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Ayewoh, at the start of plenary.
Her swearing in comes about week after the Court of Appeal in Kaduna declared her winner of the Ekiti South senatorial election held on February 23.
She replaced the former Senate spokesperson, Adedayo Adeyeye.
Mrs Olujimi who was the Minority Leader in the eight Senate, had filed a petition at the election tribunal, alleging that there were irregularities in the election after Mr Adeyeye was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She said she scored the highest number of lawful votes cast during the keenly contested poll. She asked the tribunal to nullify Mr Adeyeye’s victory and declare her winner or order a supplementary election accordingly in the district.
She claimed that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Acts, having been allegedly fraught with all manners of irregularities.
PREMIUM TIMES in September reported the initial sack of Mr Adeyeye by the tribunal in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital. The tribunal declared Mrs Olujimi winner.
At the final computation, Mrs Olujimi polled 54,894 votes to emerge victorious over the Senate committee chairman on media and publicity, who polled 52,243.
Last week, Justice Anyanwu upheld the tribunal ruling and directed INEC to issue a certificate of return to Mrs Olujimi.
Mrs Olujimi’s resumption brings the number of female lawmakers in the Senate to eight.

Sen. Biodun Olujimi Reacts To Appeal Court Verdict, To God be all the glory now and forever!!

I have been speechless since yesterday morning when the Appeal Court Ado Ekiti, sitting in Kaduna upheld the decision of the lower tribunal to the effect that I,  be returned as Senator, elected on the platform of the Pdp in the last Senatorial election!

It's a mixed feeling of relief and unbelief!
I am yet to fully grasp the import of God's mercy and compassion!!!

Let me state, that the exercise was a great journey of soul searching and a great effort to unravel the mysteries surrounding the last Senatorial elections in Ekiti. Suffice it to say that I cannot fully gather my thoughts now, but will be brief and will do a comprehensive write up later.

However,  let me thank the Almighty God,  the author and the finisher of my faith for his compassion and mercy for 'if Paul sows and Apollo waters, without the grace of God, they do so in vain'. For me, it was sheer grace, uncommon grace that spoke for me and I will never take it for granted! Eni ti a ro pe ko le p'ago,  to ko ile alarinrin!! I return all the glory to my Maker!

Next, let me salute the courage and tenacity of  Prince Dayo Adeyeye, my brother,  my friend and my opponent in this struggle! He gave me a reason to put on my thinking cap, be on my toes. He gave me a strong reason to pursue my conviction with decency. Let me say, that I know how it feels to be in his situation, but I ask that he will understand that democracy is a bitter/ sweet system which we all submitted to! I wish him luck as he moves on to plan for the future and ask that he doesn't jettison the zeal to assist and give back to his constituency. We must work to make our constituents better. I will be willing to work with him on projects that will enhance the development of Ekiti south. Politics must bind rather than separate us.

I thank my colleagues,  constituents, party faithfuls and people all over Nigeria and abroad, some who do not belong in political parties, some who have never met me in person,  some who just like me for no particular reason; who set up prayer sessions,  who sent texts and emails, asked me to fast and pray, went on prayer mountains for me without prompting!!! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. God has heard your supplication and I will never forget your show of love. I promise to work harder than ever to reciprocate your commitment.

I will take my time soon to detail my thoughts but let me thank  everyone in Ekiti especially Ekiti south Senatorial district,  my party  men and women, My National chairman, the total Chair, Prince Uche Secondus, the former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki,  Governors of the Pdp, especially one that I will not reveal till I get clearance, the NWC of the party,  my colleagues in the 8th assembly who were of immense assistance,  my great,  committed and disciplined followers and the teeming well wishers across political parties who just wish me well. May God's love always be your portion.

My family, with the Lord Mayor as the head, 'his leader', the indefatigable Otunba Akerele and his team of pocket lawyers!!
The priests across Ekiti who held Novenas for me, My Lord,  Bishop Ajakaiye, the prayer groups, Pastors, prophets,  Imams, Alfas and all spirit filled individuals and groups who took up the challenge to pray for my success. May God never cease to listen to your supplication.

To the legal team led by Professor Egbewole SAN, KK Eleja SAN and all his lawyers especially Barr John. Barr Lekan Olatawura, Ayo Oguntuase, Olugbade, the famous Pw 15, the many senior lawyers who supplied the points of law, you know yourselves,  I can't thank you enough.

I cannot finish without acknowledging the the judiciary, particularly,  those that were involved in the tribunal and the appeal. They renewed my hope in a better Nigeria where justice is compelled by transparency and fairness. I salute you all. I pray that you don't relent in your quest to be fair even in the face of huge tension.  Thank you for doing justice to the case.
As I said earlier,  this is just a hurried write up. I will do a better one soon.
Lastly,  I thank God for his Mercies and grace. May his grace abide with us now and forever.

Signed:

Sen. Biodun Olujimi

President Buhari fires 35 aides in VP Osinbajo’s office

legit.ng
Nov 6, 2019 5:13 AM
A report by Daily Nigerian indicates that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sack of at least 35 out of over 80 aides in the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the report, the affected aides, who were issued appointment letters in August 2019, included some senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants and technical assistants.
Sources quoted in the report but preferred anonymity, said the aides may be formally issued their sack letters on Wednesday, November 6.
Preparatory to their eventual dismissal, the aides were reportedly posted out to some line ministries relevant to their designation last month.

“Although more than half of the aides are under the payroll of donor agencies, the cabal eased them out in order to whittle down the influence of the vice president,”
a source quoted in the report said. The move was allegedly to deny them access to the Presidential Villa and reduce the influence of the vice president in the seat of power.
“None of them were queried or interdicted for any wrongdoing. It is not about cutting cost, because no aide was sacked in the president’s office nor office of the First Lady, where six more aides appointed less than one month ago. They were just sacked to reduce the VP’s influence,” he added
Last month, a media report indicated that Osinbajo has not been left off the hook by a powerful cabal in the presidency.
Although he has not formally declared his interest, there are talks of the vce president angling to replace his boss in 2023.According to the report, some powerful persons in the seat of power are united in their bid to frustrate the vice president ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Sources quoted in the report say the cabal have adopted another strategy to facilitate their plot, which is that they are now bringing together “a new array of forces, including former key federal government officials, and at least, one of his staunchest political allies to wage the ongoing political fight in the presidency.”

ILLEGALITY: KANO Assembly Member Uses Illegal Number Plate, FRSC Denied Issuance.

The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been drawn to the existence of a number plate issued with the wrong spelling of "CHIP WHIP" instead of the correct spelling of CHIEF WHIP to the Kano State House of Assembly. We wish to state categorically that the said number plate did not originate from any of the FRSC Number Plate production centres, neither was it issued by the Corps.

We are therefore making it abundantly clear to members of the public that FRSC as the lead agency in road traffic management and safety administration in the country has nothing to do with the said number plate as some people are insinuating on some social media  platforms. For the avoidance of doubt, FRSC with its International Quality Management certification (ISO 9001: 2008) has rigorous quality procedures for producing and issuing any of its security documents which makes the possibility of such obvious grammatical errors on any of its licences an impossibility.

Consequently, the Corps Marshal, Dr  Boboye Oyeyemi has ordered the Sector Commander of Kano State to investigate the origin of the purported number plate  with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the illegal act to book. Furthermore, he has directed  all field commands  across the country to be on vigilance and clampdown on producers and issuers of fake number plates.

To this end, he calls on members of the public to immediately report any act of such illegality against all FRSC security documents, while assuring of the competence and diligence of the Corps in carrying out all its assignments geared toward ensuring safer road environments for safety and security of all Nigerians.

Ajimobi Hit The Rock, Balogun Floors Him Again In The Appeal Court .

For the third time, Sen. Kola Balogun, has floored former governor Abiola Ajimobi. That means Ajimobi cannot represent Oyo South senatorial district between 2019 and 2023.
The court of appeal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, few minutes ago affirmed the judgement of the National Assembly election petition tribunal which had earlier ruled in favor of Balogun.
At today’s judgement, the court dismissed the All Progressives Congress, APC, petition.
The result of the Feb. 23 election as declared by INEC indicated that Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated his closest rival, Abiola Ajimobi of the APC with a vote difference of 13,502.
The PDP candidate ended the contest with a total of 105,720 votes while the candidate of the APC had 92,217 votes.
On October 17th, 2019, the court reserved judgement. This was after the panel of justices reserved judgment after adoption of the written addresses of the appellants; the APC and Ajimobi whose legal team was led by Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), and respondents: the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Balogun and PDP.
Olujimi in his submission had challenged the qualification of Balogun to participate in Feb. 23 election on the ground that he did not participate in the PDP primary election but was selected.
He further argued that the National Assembly Election Tribunal did not properly evaluate the evidence brought before it before delivering judgment in the petition.
However, counsel to the INEC, Balogun, and PDP respectively refuted the claim by the appellants stressing that the tribunal through due diligence examined all evidence tendered before it.
The respondent’s lawyers were led by Messrs Ademola Osuolale, Olalekan Ojo (SAN) and Oluwasesan Dada.
They added that the issue raised on the primary election of PDP lacked merit as being proposed by the appellant as the basis for nullifying the candidature of Balogun, the second respondent
