An exclusive interview with a prolific writer, politician, Prince Aladelusi Adesanmi.

Who are you sir?

I am Prince Vincent Adesanmi Aladelusi.

Where do you hail from?

I hail from Ogotun-Ekiti, under the jurisdiction of Ekiti South West Local Government Area of Ekiti state.

Please sir, can you tell us briefly, your educational background?

Thanks. Well, I am a typical Ekiti man: a real home based figure, who almost does everything here in Ekiti.
I started my education at St. Thomas's Catholic nursery/primary school where I left with primary school certificate in 1989. I therefore proceeded to Ogotun High school, Ogotun-Ekiti in 1990 and I finished my secondary school 1995 with school certificate (WASC).
I worked with establishments in Ado-Ekiti for almost six or seven years before gaining an admission into the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD) in the year 2002 and graduated in the year 2007 where I bagged my B. A (Hons) English and Literary Studies. I went for my youth service in Taraba State in the year 2008, which was completed in March 2009, and I came back home with my NYSC discharge certificate.

Do you have any additional academic qualifications?

Well, academically, I target sky to be my starting point. I cherish education too much. Though I am a masters degree holder (in view). That will not be my limit, God's willing.

Tell us your working experience sir?

Well, though I have not been permanently employed by any government organisation since I graduated, but I've worked with several private organisations; majorly schools. I was once the principal of a prominent school in my home town. I am a prominent English tutor. I work in different private Higher institutions within Ekiti as part-time lecturer, I'm also a writer and I've published a lot of books.

Why do you aspire to become a Councillor?

Thanks, well I told you the other time that I am a grassrooter. I know what representation entails and my predominant pre-occupation going to Local Government chamber is to champion the course of the good people of my ward, which I already know the areas where some social economic needs are to be met. In a nutshell, I aspire to become a Councillor with a view to representing my dear party (APC) through my ward meritoriously and equitably.

What do you like doing sir?

Reading, writing, acting and making people feel happy and cheerful all the time.

Oshiomhole explained that Saraki was the “smartest political player and seasoned smart guy”, hence uprooting his structures in the state was tough.
Fielding questions from State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Monday, Oshiomhole said he used Oto’ge movement to uproot Saraki’s political structure in Kwara State.
He said: “Remember I was saying that Saraki must be removed, people would say how would I do it? I said okay if he resists removal, then we would uproot. We went to Kwara, we did Oto ge, we uprooted Saraki, and you cannot commend me for this? You know who Saraki is?
“If you are talking of the most smartest political player, seasoned smart guy, he is. But for every smartness he has, I have a superior smartness. At the end of the day who won? As a senate president, we uprooted him as senator, we uprooted his nominee for governor, and senators, we put our own.
“Today, he doesn’t have one senator in Kwara, he doesn’t have one House of Representatives in Kwara. Everything in Kwara is APC and you can’t commend me for that? If you don’t, then I will be like the lizard – I will praise myself if you State House Correspondents don’t praise me.”

The leader of the House, Rt Hon. Joseph Ayodele commended the 6th Ekiti State House of Assembly for the proper scrutiny, painstakingly verification of the review of legislation of the 5th Assembly to suspend the Ekiti Council bosses.

Though, the legislators of the 6th assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon. Funminiyi Afuye did so much well and shows their capability, tells the whole world that they are not rubberstamp but we have to kudos the governor of Ekiti State H. E Dr John Kayode Fayemi for being Liberal, fair to all EKITI citizens (without playing politics), for his sportmanship and large heart to harbour everyone.
Indeed, it's first of is kind in the nation.

Also, the other lawmakers that showered encomium on the governor are;

1. The deputy leader of the House Hon. Olaluwoye Aderopo Obitibiti (Representing ward 10 ogotun Ekiti) applaud the governor for his giant strides in the infrastructure, the operation no potholes and illumination of the state capital @Ado-Ekiti, the prompt payment of salaries of the civil servants, sending the senior civil servants to seminars, compensations of science subject teachers and the paying of gratuity since the inception of the government of Dr Kayode Fayemi John can't be overemphasised. DECISION TO CHANGE POLITICAL PLATFORM FROM PDP TO APC.

I write to inform your good office about my well thought decision to change my political Platform from Peoples Democratic Party to All Progressives Congress with effect from today 22nd of July, 2019. The formal declaration and ceremony date at my ward level will be communicated to my honourable colleagues in a due course.

My decision is premised on two reasons.

1. Good performance and overwhelming giant stride of present government under the leadership of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti State.

2. The internal wrangling that has permeated the body structure of our party (PDP) in the last two years without resolution from the warring factions.

I want to appreciate the notable leaders and members in PDP for giving me the opportunity to serve in different capacities when the party was in good order.

No doubt, that party loyalty is a prerequisite in party politics, non the less, the interest of our dear state should be given a priority as a patriotic citizen. The performance of His Excellency Dr. John Kayode Fayemi is the major magic warden that attracted me as a peace loving and scrupulous indigene to joining hand with the Progressives to move our state forward. A good percentage of Ekiti State strata has been overhauled and rejuvenated within a short period of less than a year of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi in the Saddle of governance.

Finally, I will appreciate my fellow colleagues if we can all join this school of thought to restore our core values and regain our loss glory.

Accept the assurances of my highest regards.

Nigeria lacks behind just because we missed the track... Ariyo Dare-Atoye

The nationalist, erudite scholar and convener Comrade Ariyo Dare-Atoye during is yearly programme, empowering the public school pupils in his country home "Igbara-odo Ekiti", to encourage the children and to give the parental care to the less privileged.

He made it clear that the past and present leaders in our dear country never attended private schools, even most of them walk miles without shoes with tattered uniform but they were determined, serious and courageous.

But quite unfortunate that most of them are sending their children to private schools, even out of the country for better education while they don't think of making the public schools in the nation to be of a standard.

The succour expected to give to the public school pupils and students are spent irrelevance and education as been taking as frivolity by our leaders.

Mr Ariyo Dare-Atoye presents writing materials to the schools, awards and encourages the first, second and third pupils materially and financially.

ICYMI: Buhari asked us to focus on northern Nigeria — World Bank

Oyetunji Abioye, Washington DC

The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, said on Thursday that the bank had concentrated on the northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.

Kim and the Managing Director, International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, who spoke at separate press conferences in Washington DC, United States, also advised Buhari to invest in things that would enhance economic growth.

Kim said, “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that.  Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult.

“I think Nigeria, of course, has suffered from the dropping oil prices. I think things are just now getting better.  But the conversation we need to have with Nigeria, I think, is in many ways related to the theme that I brought to the table just this past week, which is investment in human capital.  The percentage of the Gross Domestic Product that Nigeria spends on healthcare is less than one percent.”

He added, “Despite that, there is so much turbulence in the northern part of the country, and there is the hit that was taken from the drop in the oil prices.  Nigeria has to think ahead and invest in its people. Investing in the things that will allow Nigeria to be a thriving, rapidly growing economy in the future is what the country has to focus on right now.”

Kim also said, “Focusing on the northern part of Nigeria, we hope that as commodity prices stabilise and oil prices come back up, the economy will grow a bit more. But very, very much important is the need to focus on what the drivers of growth in the future will be.”

According to the World Bank boss, the bank will invest in human capital in other parts of Africa in order to prepare the continent for the next phase of growth.

Lagarde, in her remarks, said Sub-Saharan African countries, including Nigeria, had posted suboptimal growth in recent times.

Ariyo Dare-Atoye led Yoruba groups to protest in Abuja over murder of Fasoranti’s daughter

  Eromosele Ebhomele

 - Some groups including the Yoruba Collectives have marched on the streets of Abuja to call attention to the rising cases of insecurity in Nigeria - Led by Comrade Ariyo-Dare Atoye, the protesters demanded for justice, restructuring and a review of the country's security architecture - The protesters also reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians supported him massively in 2015 because of belief in his capacity to secure the country A group, the Yoruba Collectives, and some supporting organizations stormed Abuja on Wednesday, July 17, in protest against the killing of Funke Olakunrin, daughter of leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasonranti, by suspected bandits.

While noting that the security challenges predate the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, but that the issues had been terribly aggravated. "Security trumps every other consideration for many Nigerians who worked selflessly in 2015 for the ascension of President Muhammadu Buhari to power. PAY ATTENTION: Install our latest app for Android, read best news on Nigeria’s #1 news app "Even those who did not vote for President Buhari believed or had believed that security is one area where the president will excel, but today, even Katsina, the home state of our dear president is under the threats of bandits," the protesters said. Ignore Tinubu’s comment, he cannot speak for southwest – Ariyo Dare-Atoye

Reacting to the latest interview granted by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, a civil rights activist, Ariyo-Dare Atoye has described it as: an act of cowardice, shameful, annoying, disingenuous and unbecoming of a man desperate for power at any cost, including trading the Yoruba nation and lands for anything.

“That Asiwaju has expressed his politically motivated narrow opinion of the killing of an illustrious daughter of Yoruba land cannot vitiate the truth that Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of our own Afenifere leader, Pa Fasoronti was killed by armed Fulani herdsmen operating unrestrained in virtually every forest of Yoruba land.

“His attempt to score a cheap distraction as his wife did during the general election, using the Igbos as a cannon folder, by mentioning Evans is a big self-indictment on Tinubu’s failure in the Southwest, because the Igbos rose to the occasion by pursuing a demolition onslaught against kidnappers without outsourcing blames or accusing the rest of the country of ethnic profiling and today it is the most secured zone in Nigeria.

“Unfortunately, Asiwaju Tinubu cannot replicate what a courageous General Muhammadu Buhari did in 2001 when he led a delegation of Fulani leaders to Ibadan to allege the Yorubas of killing his people – the herdsmen and to accuse the government of Oyo State under Pa Lam Adesina of doing nothing about it.

“It is a tragedy for any Omoluabi in Yoruba land to watch Tinubu explaining away with disrespect to the dead and the people, a present evil in our forests, bushes and lands that is consuming humans, crops and threatening our corporate existence, because of an ambition that will soon be truncated by the very people he is defending.

“This is a clarion call on the Yoruba nation not to be troubled by what Tinubu said or those who are sympathetic to leaders of the group that is oppressing our farmers and our people; it is time for us to stand up and defend our lands from marauders without forgetting that there will always be betrayals, cowards and those who are ever willing to trade our future away.

“Ignore those who are afraid to speak truth to power, as a matter of concern, there is going to be walk to protest-walk to Aso-Rock on Wednesday, July 17, to raise some pertinent questions about our continuous existence as a nation and speak our minds about the state of the nation.

El-Rufai’s Son Threatens Buhari Over Appointments

Against expectations, Buhari had approved the re-appointment of Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff to the President.
Bello, a son of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concerns over recent appointment made by President Muhammadu Buhari, threatening to protest the re-appointment of some ministers and aides who served in his first term.
The Kaduna State governor’s son said if Buhari re-appoints same set of ministers, he would lose the trust of Nigerians.
“We trust you, Mr. President. It has nothing to do with partisanship. It has nothing to do with your cult following that only fools deny. But recent appointments aside, if some Ministers return, well, that trust will become very unsteady. We are not PDP, you will hear us!” Bello tweeted Friday night.
We trust you Mr. President. It has not nothing do with partisanship. It has nothing to do with your cult following that only fools deny. But recent appointments aside, if some Ministers return, well, that trust will become very unsteady. We are not PDP, you will hear us!

Senator Elisha Abbo in fresh scandal as journalist accuses him of assault

Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja
Adamawa-North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has been drawn into a fresh scandal as a photojournalist, Olumuyiwa Owolabi, has accused him of assault and breach of agreement.
Owolabi told The PUNCH that Abbo not only assaulted him but got the police to lock him up in Adamawa.
He said he first met Abbo in 2014 during the run-up to the June 2014 Ekiti State governorship election which Ayodele Fayose won.
Owolabi, who was the official photographer of Fayose during the election, said he met Abbo in Ekiti State and Abbo told him that he would like him to do some jobs for him.
He said, “The viral video of Senator Elisha Abbo assaulting a young lady isn’t a new to me as I was one of his victims of assault years back.
“I met him during the campaign of former Governor Ayodele Fayose while I was the official photojournalist assigned to Fayose during the electioneering campaign and later head of photojournalists to his deputy after the election.”
The photojournalist said Abbo, who was contesting for senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the time, entered into a contract with him to cover his political activities at the cost of N2.8m.
He said on August 13, 2014, he travelled with Abbo to Yola, Adamawa State, from Abuja by air and they lodged at Lelewa hotel for weeks while campaigning for the primaries which was eventually won by Senator Binta Garba.
The photojournalist said he travelled along with the senator from Adamawa to Mubi, Vintim Muchala to Mubi and later back to Yola after he lost the senatorial primary.
Owolabi said, “On approaching Senator Abbo to enforce the contract agreement we had, he refused to pay. He ignored several pleas for him to just give me part of my money.

“On the fateful day we wanted to travel together to Mubi for the last campaign, Boko Haram invaded the place prior to the day we ought to have travelled. Due to the attack by Boko Haram, I began to plead with him that I needed to leave the state.
After several text messages and calls put through to him were ignored, I had no choice but to sit in front of his room where he was lodged at Dansoho Hotel, Yola. This was around 5pm.”
The photojournalist further stated, “As soon as he came out, I began to plead with him that I had to go. The next thing he said was that I was embarrassing him. He started beating and slapping me. He told his orderly to put me inside the pickup truck. He told them to point their guns at me and that he would kill me and tell people I was a member of Boko Haram.
“When I heard that statement, I was shocked because I didn’t know anybody there and I couldn’t speak their language fluently. No one could come to my rescue when he brutalised me, causing me to sprain my ankle.
I began begging him to just leave me and let me go that I would leave the money for him because of his action.”

He alleged that Abbo’s police escort took him to Kaliwa Police Division around 2am with the instruction that he should be shot dead if he failed to comport himself.
Owolabi said Abbo had broken his phone at the time and so he was locked up in the police station without any means of contacting anyone.

The photojournalist added, “He had damaged my phone I couldn’t contact anybody; he tore my clothes and I was virtually naked.

“That very night, on getting to Kaliwa police station, I begged the investigating police officer to please let me use his phone to talk to one of my relatives. That was how I called one of my brothers that pleaded with the IPO to assist me out of the situation.

“The DPO came the following morning and begged him (Abbo) to give me transport fare to go back to meet my family. Till date, he hasn’t paid me the money.”

Makinde: Ajimobi Awarded N7bn Moniya-Iseyin To Ghost, Untraceable Contractor

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has made another revelation known of how a faceless contractor with untraceable office address was awarded the Moniya-Iseyin road for N7billion by the immediate past administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The Governor spoke after taking a tour of the road leading to the Pacesetter Quarry and Asphalt plant, located at Km 25, Moniya-Iseyin Road, Ojedeji Village, Akinyele local government for an assessment of the plant. Makinde, who described as a serious headache for him since took over the administration of the state disclosed that N2 billion out of the total contract sum was paid to the contractor who he described as ‘faceless’, adding that his assessment of the job done so far on the site would barely pass for N150million.
Expressing his disappointment, Makinde said the road which serves as the economic route for farm and agricultural produce into the state could be abandoned after the contractor collected N2 billion, with little or nothing to show for it on the project site.
He said his effort at locating the site address of the contractor to interact with them on the level of work done despite the amount of money released, reveals that the given office address was not only traceable but the name also faceless.
Makinde said: “And you saw the road that we took to this place, the road is just not in a good state even if it for us to get this functional, we can patch this road to support the Ibadan-Moniya-Iseyin road because it is a major road linking Ibadan with our production centres of Oke-Ogun as the food basket of the state and the country.”
“My impression of the work done so far if I will have to evaluate  and cost it, it couldn’t have been more than N150million that I will spend on it.”
“It was a faceless contractor and we don’t even know where their offices are located. I could have stopped by to go discuss with them but there is nowhere to stop by.” While speaking on the quarry and asphalt plant which has been abandoned in the past eight years, Makinde expressed disappointment that the project that could have fetched the state some revenue was left unattended to, due to political difference. The Asphalt plant was established during the tenure of Senator Rashidi Ladoja but could not attract any partner under the proposed Public-Private Partnership agreement. The inspection, according to Governor Makinde, was targeted at reviving the facility in order to reduce the money spent on road projects by the state government. “What we will do is that we will look at what has gone on it through the files but it is a shame that we have an asset like this and it was just allowed to root because of political considerations. And we will have to send people here to check the integrity of what we have here and quickly see what we can do because we are buying a whole lot of asphalt from other places for road maintenance agencies.
“What we came to do is to check the integrity of the plant. Sometimes, it may be better to start something from the start if we cannot bring this back to life, but the concept was well thought of and the state government has been buying asphalt from the third party, so we might as well put this back to life,” the governor maintained.
Addressing reporters after the tour, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa said, the governor, aside from checking the books has been making frantic efforts to interact physically with the contractors handling the road project but has not yielded any result. He, however, pledged the state government’s commitment to rely on those who know how to trace the money to do the needful, assuring that the government would do everything possible to ensure that roads with economic worth are fixed in the interest of the people of the state.
