2023: Tinubu, Others Who Are Above 60 Years Won’t Be Allowed To Rule Nigeria — Fayemi

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Thursday, declared that presidential aspirants who are above 60 years of age would not be allowed to rule the country.

Though Fayemi did not specifically mention names, but it should be noted that National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who are eyeing the presidency are well above 60 years. Tinubu will be 70 by 2023 while El-Rufai will be 63.

Fayemi, who is also the governor of Ekiti state, called on the youth to launch themselves into the Nigerian political terrain in the 2023 general elections and dictate who becomes president and governors of the 36 states.

The governor, who spoke in Abuja at the National Youth Summit and Conference organised by the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), was represented by his Special Adviser on Federal Matters, Hon. Makinde Araoye.

Fayemi, who chaired the occasion, called on the youth to take charge in 2023, said aside from political offices, their energy and wisdom would also be useful in other aspects of the country’s economy.

He said: “We have 2022 and 2023 elections around the corner, and in the new dispensations that are coming up, what is our role? Are we going to be blocking the Toll gates? Are we going to be burning the national flag? Are we going to be tweeting #Endsars#; or are we going to grab the mantle of power that we have now to dictate who the next president of Nigeria will be; and who the next governors in Nigeria will be?

“One thing I can tell you is that we the Nigerian youths are not going to allow anyone above the age of 60 years to run for president. Nigerians have suffered enough. Enough is enough. It is not by saying, we have to go into action and we have to mobilise.’’

The Chairman, Governing Board of NYC, Dr Yakub Shedam, in his address, said with proper government’s direction, the Nigerian youths would curb banditry.

Shedam also called on the federal government to include members of the group in its programmes and politics, saying that NYC is apolitical, rather, a movement to actualize a one-Nigeria for the youth that devoid of religious and ethnicity biases.

Also, the NYC President, Comrade Blessing Akinlosotu, who stated that the Nigerian youths formed 65-70 percent of the country’s population, said: “How has this great numerical strength being translated into good governance/leadership and economic prosperity?’’.

On the summit, he said: “This National Youth Summit is a very strategic and important one as its resolutions will be presented to the Federal Government, National Assembly, and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to be worked on for proper implementation for the betterment of the Nigerian youths’’.

Otunba Yinka Akerele condemned Electoral Violence, Condoled With The Families Of The Deceased.
One of the foremost leaders of peoples' democratic party 'PDP' in Ekiti State, Otunba Yinka Akerele frowned at APC led-government in Ekiti state over the wanton destruction of lives and properties in Omuo-Ekiti during the House of Assembly by-election.

It could be recalled that INEC fixed March 20th, 2021 for the by-election of Ekiti East constituency1 following the demised of Late juwa Adegbuyi, the Constituency comprises five wards where senator Biodun Olujimi of PDP hailed from.
Otunba Akerele in his comments on social media platforms made it clear, APC unleashed mayhem on the peaceful voters like herdsmen on law abiding Nigerians. It's crystal clear that APC as a party is a bloodsucking demon, and they're no longer on grounds.

How could a reasonable government killed its citizens, waste properties and defranchized people their rights? It's uncalled for and these barbaric acts must stop, the killers must understand that power is transient, he added.

He thereby, Sympathize with the families of the deceased and called on the government of Ekiti State, and the security agents to make sure the perpetrators are brought to book, as PDP in Ekiti State will not hesitate to take legal actions against the evil

Educate yourself on the contribution of Nigerians Abroad, Diaspora Group replies Nigeria Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase
A sociopolitical organization in the diaspora, Ekiti Diaspora Development Initiative (EDDI) has condemned and described as irresponsible, the statement credited to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Idris Wase. According to publications and videos, the Deputy Speaker says Nigerians in the Diaspora have no rights sending petitions to the House of Representatives on issues happening in Nigeria. “What do they know about Nigeria? What is their business? They can’t sit in their comfort zones and know what is happening in Nigeria,” Wase asked while presiding over a session of the House of Representatives.

Speaking with our correspondent over the phone last night, EDDI’s spokesperson, Mr. Ayodele Orebe describes the statement as unbecoming of a Federal Legislator and called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila to educate and tutor Mr. Wase on the contributions of Nigerians in the Diaspora to the development of the country at large.  Mr. Orebe said he has received at least over 50 calls and messages since the video went viral on social media, calling the statements by the Deputy Speaker shameful and underserving of the position of the number two sit of the House of Representatives.

The EDDI’s spokesperson recalled the 2018 Pew Research Center report, which shows that African immigrants sent a record $625 billion back to their home countries in 2017, a 7% increase from year 2016. Additionally, a 2019 report by PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC), described the enormous financial contribution of Nigerians abroad to the Nigerian economy. According to the report, the inflow of remittances by Nigerians in the Diaspora rose to estimated $25 billion in 2018, making it the highest in the sub-Saharan Africa. This record makes Nigeria one of the top five nations with such inflow of money globally. Mr. Orebe said, “for a sitting Deputy Speaker of the Nigeria House of Representatives to not know or ignore such contribution is ignorance and unfortunate.”

At this crucial state of insecurity in Nigeria, all hands must be on deck to provide necessary support to the government to curtail insecurity even as he said the fear of kidnapping and insecurity is preventing thousands of Nigerians abroad from coming home. Partnering with Nigerians in the Diaspora will speedily assist the government in information and intelligence gathering. “Is the insecurity in Nigeria today the same whenever the Deputy Speaker visits any part of the Diaspora and how many times has the Deputy Speaker peacefully visit his village without the fear of kidnapping or banditry?”

One must also appreciate the Member representing Gwer East-Gwer West constituency of Benue State, Hon Mark Gbillah for standing his ground while presenting the petition even in the face of bullying. Nigerians are across the globe deserve to be represented and accounted for regardless of which country they live. This is what civilized and democratic countries do. Unfortunately, the posture demonstrated by the Deputy Speaker is that of democracy in “name only and not in deeds.”

"The EDDI was conceptualized to promote a just, fair, and politically-engaged society, where all citizens, regardless of socio-economic status in the areas of education, income, and occupation can be given a sense of belonging and treated as respectable integral part of governance. With behaviors of the likes of the Deputy Speaker, it will be a challenge to achieve a just and fair Nigeria. However, EDDI is prepared to fight to make it happen, Mr. Orebe concluded.

AHEAD OF EKSU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ELECTION: GROUPS DRUM SUPPORT FOR 'AFOLABI FAKAYODE' AMIDST CONTROVERSY.
Sequel to the notice announced by the Electoral Body the Ekiti State University Alumni Association that it's election has been scheduled for 27th March 2021, lots of intrigues, scheming and politicking have started in different camps as it is expected in every association, organization and democratic set-up.

A report has it that a foremost member of the Association who is also a leading aspirant for the post of the National Assistant General Secretary, Mr Afolabi Fakayode popularly known as 'Afooo' had been confronted with series of allegations in a petition officially addressed to the Association's electoral body accusing him of failing to attend any Oyo State Chapter's official meetings, that he has never served in any position in Oyo State chapter before and that he has never attended any of the National convention/AGM before; asking the Electoral Body to disqualify him.

However, in a reply written by Mr Afolabi fakayode, he has alleged Mr Tayo Adegunju (Osama) and Mr Bola Ogunlayi who are members of the National Executive Council (NEC) and Member of Board of Trustees as the actors behind the sponsored blackmail, extreme discrimination and unbearable insults that are being directed at him.
(Osama)

According to Afolabi, "I do not have such capacity to renounce my membership of the Alumni Association, even if I so wish, as the right is inalienably compelling, being a proud holder of EKSU's prestigious University's certificate"

"Even when their allegations are quite laughable, it is sad that in this time and age when human evolution is deeply into innovation and healthy rivalry that stimulate unimaginable developments and intellectual integration that breaks prism and builds bridges for robust participation, people could still hold tight to this kind of primitive ideology that deceitfully ordains them to lord over everybody and everything as though their personal territory is being encroached.

The last meeting we held in Ibadan a week ago during the visit of one of the presidential aspirants, Hon. Segun Odidi, who is also the serving National Secretary was to the presence of the visitors extremely insulting and embarrassingly condescending to the extent of some of their sponsored boys who arrogantly see Ibadan as Oyo state telling me to prove my  Oyo state originality to them. I had to refrain from muddling with the pigs as they spent so many unprintable words. THIS INSULT, I CAN NO LONGER TAKE".

Speaking further, Mr Afolabi queried, "how can people who may have earned our certificate through distant learning (apologies to others who deservedly earn their certificate through this channel) be calling to question the eligibility of me who walked the nooks and cranny of our Iworoko- Ekiti (main) campus and partook in every meaningful struggle in the students' movement for six good verifiable years into question? How can someone who thinks the only meeting held in his Bere Oje backyard and not the ones held via online media is valid, requests I prove to his folly my attendance of National Convention while the individuals: Deji Oso (current Ekiti chapter Chairman), Seyi Idowu (current Ogun state Chairman) and Kehinde Okunuga (current Ogun chapter Gen Sec) whom  I had attended convention with are there to testify to the appropriate authority I did attend. That is all that was required on the application and I wait for Deji Oso, Seyi Idowu and Kehinde Okunuga to testify against my presence for me to present other proofs, otherwise, I won’t accept a challenge other aspirants were not subjected to, just to please some self-acclaimed godfathers".
(Seyi Idowu)

"I don’t need to go far on my role in the chapter. Through communication on the chapter online platform and direct consultation of your leadership, you all were witnesses to the leadership I offered the chapter as the Chairman of the harmonization committee which had some of their lieutenants as members in the also quite an unpleasant warm-up that ushered in the current chapter executives ably led by  Adebayo Blessing. In all modesty, some of these detractors can not even match in twenty years what we financially contributed to ensuring the Chapter  election was held in Oyo State, unlike the self-appointed executives it used to be"

Mr Fakayode Afolabi acknowledged the current leadership of Asiwaju (Dr) Oludotun Adetunberu for his progressive membership drive and leadership Excellence, asking all to join hands with the new brand he has created to build a formidable Alumni community in the years ahead.

"Let me state here very clearly that my resolve to contribute my humble but valuable quota to the ongoing effort of your administration to advancing the course of our Alma mata is irrevocable. Despite their machinations, this house CANNOT FALL", Afolabi concluded in his letter forwarded to the National Executive Council of the Association.

In similar reactions, the Ekiti State Chapter and Ogun State Chapter under the leadership of Comrade Deji Oso Dejavu and Hon Seyi Idowu Urban had publicly endorsed the candidacy of Mr Afolabi Fakayode.

In a release made by Comrade Deji Oso Dejavu, he gave a brief history of his trajectory in the Alumni Association and stated that his appearance at the 2011 national convention was motivated by Mr Fakayode Afolabi and Hon Seyi Idowu.

According to Deji Oso, "that I was at the convention in 2011 to agitate for a democratic EKSU Alumni Association that can recognize not just graduates from OSUA alone but also UNAD and EKSU graduates, which gave birth to the agreement leading to the integration of younger generation of graduates into the Alumni leadership was an opinion collectively mooted by the trio of Afolabi, Seyi Idowu and Deji Oso".
(Deji Oso)

Stating further, "for us in Ekiti, we believe in Afoo. He is a tested and trusted Alumnus. Hence, he will definitely add quality integrity and excellent values to the Association if elected", Deji Oso affirmed.

In a similar vein, The Ogun State Chapter Chairman Hon. Seyi Idowu Urban has also lent his backing to
Afolabi Fakayod stating that he is not just qualified to run as the National Asst General Secretary of the Association alone, but would be an indispensable pride and asset to the Association.

"I do hereby support Afolabi Fakayode for the purpose of building and strengthening the capacity of our Association in advancing the overall course of our University, Seyi Idowu concluded.

Meanwhile, Mr Tayo Adegunju (Osama) has responded to the allegations levelled against him by Mr Afolabi Fakayode, describing the claims as unverifiable, ridiculous and fallacious.

"I have since moved on and won't, therefore, respond to the lies.

What is important to me more is the stability and development of EKSU Alumni Association, other issues are secondary", Adegunju Osama noted.

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Chief Sanya Atofarati has cautioned the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Deji Doherty, to desist from making further divisive comments against the party leadership in the state.

Atofarati was reacting to a statement credited to Doherty where he purportedly denied the knowledge of endorsement of Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja as the sole Candidate for the National Vice Chairmanship position by leadership of the party in Lagos state but tagged it as "Chief Bode George's factional endorsement."

He said the endorsement of Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja by the leadership of PDP in Ondo, Ekiti and Lagos States, respectively, and especially by the former National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Chief Bode George, was predicated track records of integrity and the confidence they all have in his cohesive leadership, as nominated by the party leader in the zone, Gov. Seyi Makinde.

PETROL HIKE: IPMAN Directs Members In South Eastern Zone To Revert To The Old Price Of N170
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has instructed its  members in the South Eastern zone of the country to revert to the old price of N170 and N175 per litre of petrol.

The Chairman of IPMAN Enugu Community Depot in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.

Recall that marketers in the zone on Friday adjusted their rates to between N210 and N212, which consequently threw customers into a panic.

The NAN correspondent who monitored the situation in Awka observed that the majority of the fuel stations were deserted, while long queues surfaced at the NNPC mega station, which was yet to hike the price of petrol.

One of the marketers, Mr Victor Emeka, said the downstream market was in confusion due to conflicting directives from the NNPC and PPRA.

Emeka said, “There is confusion and uncertainty in the system now, the problem is that we are not sure that the increment has ended.

“Curiously, they say the sector is deregulated. Why would they be determining the price for us.”

But Anyaso is now saying that the increase had been reversed as PPRA had pulled the notice down.

According to him, no member had reason to sell above the N170-N175 range and directed them to revert immediately in the interest of the public.

Anyaso said, “There was uncertainty on the price of the product this morning which made some of our members increase their rates, but I can confirm to you that the increase had been reversed by PPRA.

“So, we’ve directed our members to revert and respect the old rate pending further development, but I must add that some of my members bought at a high price already.”

Anyaso stated that marketers would continue to do their businesses with the public interest at heart but would not undermine their own interest.

Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has increased the pump price of petrol to N212.61 a litre for March 2021.

PPPRA announced late Thursday that the retail price for a litre of petrol for the month will be between N209.61 and N212.61.

The ex-depot price, which is the amount sold by fuel depot owners to marketers, will be N206.42, while the landing cost stands at N189.61 per litre, the agency said.

A review of the pricing template showed the average price per ton of the commodity at about $561.96, or N169.22 per litre, while the average freight rate coat (North-West Europe to West Africa) of about $21.63 per ton, or N6.51 per litre.

This translates into an expected ex-coastal price of about N175.73 per litre.

Further analysis of the component charges in the pricing template showed that average littering expenses were put at about N4.81 per litre; Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) charge N2.49 per litre; NIMASA charge N0.23 per litre; Jetty Thru put of N1.61 per litre and Storage charge of N2.58 per litre and average finance cost of N2.17 per litre, translating to an expected landing cost per litre of N189.61.

When other component charges are factored into the price computation, including the wholesale margin of N4.03 per litre; administration charge of N1.23 per litre; transporters’ allowance (NTA) of N3.89 per litre; Bridging Fund cost of N7.51 per litre and Marine transport average (MTA) of N0.15 per litre, the expected ex-depot price for wholesale products marketers would be N206.42 per litre.

The addition of retailers’ margin of N6.19 per litre would bring the expected retail price (lower band) N209.61 per litre and expected retail price (upper band) N212.61 per litre, with the agency (PPPRA), says guiding price of premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol was calculated at an average of 211.11 per litre.

The announcement comes amid a partial scarcity of fuel that has lingered for weeks. There had been concerns the government, which says it has deregulated the sector and no longer pays subsidy, would raise rates as crude oil prices have seen a rebound in the global market.

Ekiti Representative "Femi Bamisile" Expressed Concern Over Eight Years of Power Outage In Ekiti At The Hallow Chamber
The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, expressed grave concern over the eight years power outage in some Local Governments in Ekiti State.

The lawmakers expressed the concern during the debate on a motion on the ‘Need to prevail on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc (BEDC) to address the power outage in Gbonyin and Ekiti East Local Government Areas of Ekiti State’, which was sponsored by Hon Olufemi Bamisile.

Worried by the development, the House resolved to invite management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) with a view to ensuring restoration of electricity in the affected Local Governments.

“The House notes that the importance of electricity in the industrial, domestic and commercial lives of an individual, corporate citizen, towns, cities and communities cannot be overemphasized as electricity is needed in factories and workshops for engineering and technical activities and desirable at hospitals and clinics for surgery and clinical activities and essential at schools and homes for education, comfort, lightings and domestic use etc.

“The House is aware that under the provisions of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005 Private Companies are given opportunities to participate in electricity generation, distribution and transmission and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc (BEDC) is one of the private companies participating in electricity distribution in the Country and also responsible for the supply of electricity to Gbonyin and Ekiti – East Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.

“The House observes that Gbonyin Local Government Area consist of seven towns namely; Ode-Ekiti, Agbado, Imesi, Egbejlro, Aiyeseba, Iluomoba and Ijan while Ekiti-East Local Government Area has eleven (11) towns namely; Omuo, Kota, Omuooke, Ayegunle, Araromi, Igbesi, Araromi Oke, Ikun Oba, Ilasa, Eda lIe, Isinbode and Isaya Ekiti.

“The House is concerned that for over eight years, towns and villages in Gbonyin and Ekiti – East Local Government Areas have been living in darkness as residents do not get electricity supply from BEDC, thereby bringing economic activities, family and social lives to a standstill with attendant consequences to the economic well-being, prosperity and health of residents as private individuals and corporate citizens transacting business in the areas are compelled to be buying diesel and fuel at exorbitant prices to power generators.

Former Second Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Monday Ubani said his firm and foundation would join hands with the prophet to ensure more people being held unjustly are freed.

Ubani said he particularly picked interest on the prophet because of testimonies of how he donates materials to inmates.

“Of utmost excitement to me personally and our law firm is the issue of facilitating the release of some of the inmates that have been in detention awaiting trials for good number of years. For instance, the case of one Azeez Ibrahim, who regained his freedom recently at the instance of the prophet. “

“The man narrated how he wrongly served 10 years and six months at Kirikiri Correctional Centre for wrong identification. He regained freedom as a result of the intervention of the prophet. The number we gathered who have regained freedom so far through the effort of the prophet and his church has risen to about 82 inmates,” Ubani said.

#ENDSARS: NIGERIANS WANT EFCC TO PROBE YORUBA OBA, WHOSE STAFF OF OFFICE WAS STOLEN DURING PROTEST.

Nigerians on social media have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, for money laundering.

The monarch had said $2 million and N17 million were stolen when youths attacked his palace on October 21, 2020 in the violence that erupted after the #EndSARS protests.

Oba Akiolu, whose staff of office known as the ‘Opa Ase’, was also taken away by hoodlums who broke into his palace during the riot, spoke on Wednesday in Lagos.
Many social media users have since accused the monarch of money laundering, saying a private citizen should not have at home, the amount of money purportedly stolen.

A tweep, @uncle_ajala, wrote, “The Oba of Lagos says that $2 million and N17million were stolen when hoodlums attacked his palace during the last #EndSARS protest. He should be telling EFCC what he was doing with that amount and how he got the $2m after this revelation.”

“But how will the Oba of Lagos have $20 million in his house? To imagine that he just discovered that after how many months? EFCC where are you?” @Gabafolayan wrote.

“Is Oba of Lagos operating a BDC (Bureaux De Change) in his palace? Is this not some violation? Is this not money laundering @officialEFCC ? @Intergrity56 asked.

@ImportedAlhaji also wondered if the palace of the monarch was a bank. “Please where did he get that money and when EFCC going to call him in for questioning him? Or Palace don turn to bank these days?” he asked.

On Facebook, Wakji Tazuk said, “The Oba should be arrested and prosecuted for keeping such amount of money in his house.”

Nwankwor Chimaobi buttressed Tazuk’s point, saying, “The Oba should be arrested for money laundering.”

“How much is the monthly salary of the Oba?” another Facebook user, Olu Diamond, asked.

WHAT PDP RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE DISCUSSED WITH OBASANJO – SARAKI

A former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee and Strategy met with ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday to discuss solutions to national problems.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Mr Saraki, who is the chair of the committee, led his team consisting of Ibrahim Shema, Ibrahim Dankwanbo, Liyel Imoke, Mulikat Adeola, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola to Mr Obasanjo.

The meeting lasted two hours at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Mr Saraki told journalists after the meeting that their visit was to speak on challenges currently facing Nigeria.

“It was a very useful deliberation; we informed the former president why we are here – the purpose of the committee and that it is important, as an elder statesman,” the former Kwara governor said.

“The president is someone who has been in our party before and someone committed to the unity, to the success of this country.

“I think that when we talk about kidnapping, when we talk about (a) sense of belonging, these are issues that go across party lines and what is required now is for government to provide leadership in bringing all stakeholders together. Let us discuss and see how we can address some of these issues.

“We are very hopeful for the future of this country; we are very hopeful that everybody will have a sense of belonging. I think it is important that we all must come to the table and discuss. We can tap into a lot of resources. Even on the issue of security, there are (a) lot of people with a lot of experience that we can make use of.

“My advice to government this time is that, this problem is a huge problem that cannot be left to just the government and the ruling party. I think this is the time the opposition, the ruling party and our international friends come together because the challenges before us are enormous and we need to address them,” Mr Saraki said.

Mr Obasanjo, who was the president on the platform of the PDP between 1999 and 2007, tore his membership card publicly, in the buildup to the 2015 elections.

He declared his support for President Muhammadu Buhari against ex-President Goodluck Jonathan who eventually lost the election.

In recent times, Mr Obasanjo has criticised the current administration particularly in the area of insecurity.
