On Friday, 17 April 2020, Nigeria recorded the highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far. Fifty-one confirmed cases were recorded.
Of these cases, one was recorded in Ekiti state. This brings cases of the virus in Ekiti to three with two discharged.
The senator representing Ekiti south senatorial district, Mrs Biodun Olujimi charges the Ekiti state government to intensify efforts in the fight against the virus in the state.
Olujimi urges the government of the state to look into further equipping the Isolation centre in the state inorder to facilitate quick recovery of the COVID-19 patient. She commends the efforts of the health workers over the treatment of the previous two discharged patients.
Senator Olujimi admonishes the Fayemi led Administration to sensitize Ekiti residents as she rightly observed that most of the people do not take precautionary measures due to lack of information.
It should be known that the state do not have adequate health facilities that can accommodate the virus in the state so it is pertinent to contain the spread of the virus so as not to jeopardize the lives of Ekiti people.
Senator Olujimi also appealed to the government of the state to provide more palliative supports in the state as the lockdown is still on. If the people are hungry, they may be left with no choice than to go out against the government order.
She said that at this time, protecting the lives of the citizens of Ekiti should be the most important business of the state government.
The senator also calls on the NCDC to put in place more testing facilities across the country inorder to contain the virus at the early stage.
